I'd heard some buzz about this a few months ago but I didn't get the full story. I just found this article and YIKES!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mercola/agave-this-sweetener-is-f_b_537936.html

And to add "insult to injury", I heard that most of the stevia for sale in the US is manufactured in China and so unfortunately, there could be issues when using that as well. (Disclamer...I mean no disrespect to China but there have been too many issues which have come to light in the past few years like melamine in baby formula, poison pet foods, etc =[.)

Sorry to be a "Debbie-Downer" today! :flowerforyou: I'll try to post something more positive later today!

You should check this article, too. It seems agave (as sold in the stores) is not only NOT natural but is higher in fructose than the 'demon' high fructose corn syrup AND is HIGHLY refined!

  • I think that is why i stick to plain old sugar at least i know how that reacts to my body.

Good grief. It's crazy! Like the PP, I say just go with plain old sugar. After reading all about aspartame and how that stuff causes brain cancer and all kinds of crazy stuff that will kill you, my husband and I decided we would not eat any artificial sweeteners...along with a lot of other things we will not eat. I really think moderation is the key. Eat the real stuff, just less of it, that's my motto!

Well, all this info is frustrating! I guess the bottom line is don't eat sweets, or make sure you are getting something in its most natural form.
  • So what Agave IS all natural and adheres to the actual definition of "organic and raw Agave????" We buy the one from Costco, which is Wholesome Foods Organic Blue Agave. I think I am just going to buy raw honey and be done with it!!!
