ground turkey vs ground beef

So, on the recommendation of a friend I switched to using ground turkey in place of ground beef, thinking it was a leaner, healthier choice. Now, as I am doing some research, I am not sure it actually IS. I've found different calorie and fat counts indicating that turkey is better, and other sites with calorie counts saying ground beef is better. I am using 93/7 ground turkey (It does not specifically say ground turkey breast, just ground turkey) ....am I better off going back to 93/7 ground beef???? Anyone else use ground turkey instead?

I quit eating red meat or pork completely. I use ground lean turkey and lean turkey sausage, and honestly i feel so good since i stopped eating red meat. I saw on dr oz what red meat does to you(basically cholesterol wise) and i just didn't wnat to have to worry about that down the road. Alsao, in this book called encyclopedia for healing foods, it said that people with eczema liek me should avoid eating those kinds of meat.

grass fed lean beef all the way!!! (i hate ground turkey) and there are cuts that are just as lean as turkey..grass fed beef is much better taste (in my opinion) and health wise..but it is a bit more expense than grain fed

I alternate between ground beef and ground turkey - We have a great butcher person who makes ~97% lean ground beef for us but I find it a bit too dry compared to turkey but the only reason I go back to it is because I find the ground beef sooooo much more filling. Do you notice this too?

As long as you're getting extra lean ground beef then I do not think turkey is that much better for you. Very similar nutritional values.

Pay attention to the grade of ground turkey. It needs to be ground turkey breast and be 98 or 99% fat free. Otherwise stick to beef.

At our local farmers market I can get grass fed chemical free beef, free range chickens, and sometimes turkey that is chemical free. When I can I buy that. The taste is amazing and I believe it is better for you.

Ground turkey breast or ground chicken breast is much healthier than ground beef.

    +1

All the "beef" about red meat being bad for you is bunk.

I eat both. I by the leanest that I can, 96% lean beef and 99% lean turkey. With the ground turkey, I add lemon pepper to make my turkey burgers! It is delicious!
I would really try to find the leanest meets possible.
