Don't be discouraged, it could be your body fat and muscle are shifting on your body. Give it a while longer and your measurements will show a change too. It happens to me too - a shift in size for me usually means measurements change about a week later. This is a good thing!!

We only measure a few key places on our bodies. We lose fat from EVERYWHERE.

Your hips and waist might be the same, but there's a lot of places between the two that make a difference in how comfortably your jeans fit.

Same thing is happening to me right now and my scale hadn't budged on top of it, go figure. Wish I could be of help but I don't know, if you figure it out let me know to and good luck on your weight loss :)

    Ditto this...

But also, don't freak out!! You're only 2.5 weeks in, and even if it's no exercise your body will still lose fat in its own way. Don't forget to keep the Jeans test in your arsenal of measuring tools, as well as measuring tape. Your jeans are telling you you're doing well and to keep at it!

I don't trust the measuring tape one bit personally. I see by how clothes fit. I measured myself this morning, 4 times, and it was all over the place. I absolutely don't get it.

Is it possible the last time you measured yourself you wrapped the tape measure more snugly around your hips/waist, and this time you wrapped it more loosely? Or that you measured at slightly different points?

Please don't laugh, because I'm being totally serious....

I've wondered if in an attempt to "not cheat and suck it in", I somehow "poke my gut out" when measuring....

I stand up straight, and try to relax and then measure, but I feel some "pressure" in the gut, as in it's not in a "normal position", if that makes any sense....

I think measuring yourself can be somewhat unreliable because we cannot possibly be in the exact same spot each time absent some guide -- birthmark, tattoo, etc... but then are you sucking it in, a little bloated, tape measure sagging in the back a bit -- you get the idea.

If your clothes fit better -- take it and go!!

I call this the smoosh factor. Our bodies are generally pretty soft (unless you're a male with a very low percent body fat, and even then, unless you tense the muscles there's some smoosh). It's like measuring around a soft pillow - you can measure 10 times and get 10 different numbers, depending on how tight you pull the tape. The fit of a particular garment probably tells more then either the scale or a tape (when your pants start needing a belt, you know you've lost a lot)

you all have great points! thank you!! will not freak out about this (or try not to) and stick to what my clothes are telling me.
  • I have the same problem. Pretty sure my jeans just stretched and that I bought them a bit loose anyway.

Just noticed the same thing today for me! I notched my belt one tighter than usual and it's not too tight. :)
