Healthy low calorie snacks?

Just wondering what people have as healthy snacks that are fairly low calorie? I'm having quite a lot of fruit and want to lower that a little because of the sugar content, even if it is healthier sugar. Any suggestions?

i stick to less than 10 grams of sugar per snack per day if i can like fiber one protein bar (7g of sugar)or mini ice cream sandwiches(10 gr of sugar) and thats not everyday. i alternate stuff for the sweet tooth i have and to be under the 32g of sugar i have to eat per day which is soooo hard i sometimes go over. tic tacs have low sugar and satisfy my sweet toooth at other times. i think if you eat healthy balanced diet then snacks could be limited to limited few so the key is to look at the sugar content of everything. and if it is too much like in bananas it is 14grams i believe i just have half the amount.and exercise helps a lot!!
  • Hi ( ;

I had an old magazine lying around the house that I looked through recently. (Real Simple, September 2011 issue) Inside was an article "healthy snacks for every attack". So far I've tried, Cucumber w/hummus, Blackberries w/Ricotta and honey, Radishes w/cream cheese on Pumpernickel toast. Next I'm planning to try the popcorn with Parmesan, chili powered and cayenne. There's 33 snacks in all in the article! Good Luck!!!

Below is the link to the article! ( :

A serving of raw nuts (almonds, walnuts). They are a good protein source, but limit the amount because they are calorie dense and high in fat (GOOD fat though).

    Raw veggies dipped in hummus

    apple with almond butter

smoothie if I am home and have the time to get the blender out. I like to keep it simple frozen berries, almond milk, a handful of raw spinach.

When I have to have something that feels like it's bad for me, but isn't, I get out the light Jarlsberg cheese, shred about an ounce, put it in a pile on parchment and stick it in the microwave for about 90 seconds to two minutes. Or divide it into multiple servings and do the same thing. 1 ounce runs about 67 calories. If you use a full fat cheese, one ounce runs about 110 calories.

You can also do the same thing with slices - it's just kind of pretty and lacy with shredded. A slice creates an interesting sculpture of bubbles and waves.

It makes a wonderful, crunchy cheese crisp that can be eaten warm or cool. They're great with a sandwich or with soup, too.

    Enjoy!

I'm not doing South Beach but I do love some of their snack ideas - my favorite is the spicy nut mix. Here's a link to the recipe:

    http://www.southbeachdiet.com/sbd/publicsite/recipes/Spicy-Nut-Mix.aspx

This gives a good balance of sweet and salty. I double the nuts (but nothing else) and only use walnuts, pecans and almonds. Last night when I made this I used Cayenne instead of Chili Powder because I was out of Chili Powder. I used about 1/8 teaspoon because I didn't want that much kick. Red pepper flakes might be a nice addition too.

Following any type of diet with a name on it is ridiculous and not sustainable in the end. People do not know how to function with normal food after having to follow restrictive guidelines. These should not be used unless you have to follow specific guidelines in regards to a medical condition.

there is nothing wrong with sugar. It has a bad rap because people want to blame a reason why they gained weight other than the fact they ate more than they should.

If you want to find filling foods I highly suggest fruit with the skin/pulp still on it. Meats, vegetables, cheese, eggs etc.
ex. Kiwi with skin, apples with skin, oranges with pulp.
Do not consume that canned crap people call fruit. loaded with extra sugar, low fiber (which provides you with the filling effect)
Meat is very filling calorie for calorie.
Eggs are very healthy for you as well, It has been shown to increase HDL and lower LDL. It is actually known for improving blood lipids rather than worsening a condition.

No one mentioned doing a diet with a name on it... Not that there's anything wrong with it, there are plenty of diets with names that are all about healthy eating and retraining the way you eat. So I disagree, completely.

Well there's nothing wrong with sugar but there's something wrong with having too much of it.

I don't eat canned fruit or really canned anything. I want snacks that I can take to work and some that are low in calories so that I can have something if I'm a little peckish but don't have many calories left. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
