After you get to your weight that you're shooting for and have maintained for a couple of years, do you want surgery to get rid of loose skin and, in the case of aboninoplasty, tighten up the ab muscles?

As anyone had it? What's the recovery like?

  • No, but I am going to get a reduction in the boob arena.
  • I plan to have all of the above and more. By the time I'm done I will have lost over 200 lbs, so that's a lot of loose skin.

My plastic surgeon suggested having mine done in 3-4 different sections as it's a lot at one time. He said each will take between 6-8 weeks for healing enough to get back to normal exercise routine and my total cost for all my surgeries, which will include the Lower Body Lift, Inner Thigh Lift, Breast Lift and Reshaping, BatWings and Minor Under the Chin Lift will be in the neighborhood of $40,000.

I had an appointment to get the abdominoplasty, breast lift and implant done when I was about 25 lbs heavier than I am now. My estimate was $17,500 and I wouldn't be able to work or drive or lift anything for 2 weeks at least and then you estimate about 4 months before you're back to your normal routine. I had an almost-1-year old at the time and that sounded just too harsh for me. I cancelled the appointment.

Now that I'm just really within a few lbs of my idea BF%, I can tell my stomach is never going to be perfect, but I don't think I'd go through with the abdominoplasty. They basically strip the skin off the muscle all around your torso from your armpits to hips and slide it down like a sausage skin and wait for it to reattach. Way too invasive for my liking.

But I will go ahead with that boob job... just need to find a convenient time to do it and recover with 5 kids at home :ohwell:

Insurance may cover at least a portion of that. A friend's mom had her skin reductions covered. Her doctor said the amount of excess skin she had was a clot risk and she had to have the surgery for her health. It's worth checking into.

I have A LOT to lose so YES I plan to have some work done I know I am going to need my boobs done (reshaping) and my bat wings for sure! No matter how big or small I am they have just always been there. A little chin/neck work done. Other than that It will depend on what I need when it is all said and done. :drinker:

It's hard to deal with being buff, but having eight inches of loose arm skin. I'd like an under chin lift, because my neck wrinkles (I lost 121 lbs before and remember). I'm not sure about the tummy tuck, but I would like a breast reduction and a "reperk".

But I won't do anything until I have maintained for a good long time.

I condition my skin like mad after every shower to help with it's elasticity.

Both at the same time  I was left with a horrible amount of skin in my middle and my breasts, well let me just say they no longer looked like breasts LOL The abs surgery was nothing close to as painful as the breasts...wow that hurt! I was back to exercising in two weeks, although very easy, and my first run one month to the day after surgery was 5 miles. Now that said, my doctor loved having me as a patient because I not only came to her at my goal weight but I was in tip top shape. She said during the first appointment she really thought my recovery time would be much less because I was in great physical condition...so weird to hear someone say that  It was painful only for the first couple of days and then incredibly manageable after that. I was back to work in two weeks although I took the elevator instead of the stairs for a couple of weeks. I really need to say this though, even with surgery the abdomen will never be perfect. Sure mine looks great and so much better than before but it is not the tummy of a 21 year old and it never will be. The damage I did to my body being so obese for so long took its toll and doctors can only fix so much. She did a great job though, even removing most of a very old surgery scar from when I was a kid. Oh and she got a ton of stretch marks too! My advice is to really mull it over and decide if surgery is the right option for you. If you decide yes then I also suggest you get in to the best shape you can prior to surgery because that truly helps in the recovery process, making sure you are close to your goal weight. It was a great choice for me but it is not for everyone!
