stopped losing weight completely

alright... so im 27, 6'4 male, and was extremely obese when i started my diet, weighing in at 405 pounds. in febuary i finally got sick of being like this, so i went on a very low calorie diet, which i had heard that was very effective for people that need to lose lots of weight.

i had lost 75 pounds in 3 months, which was great. last month i started exercise since i finally felt like i was able to move and not die, and im currently up to 30 mins a day of stationary biking at 17-20mph, while still sticking to 500-800 calories per day

however for the last 15 days, ive lost 0 weight, even though im eating the same amount, and exercising more. my diet consists of boneless skinless chicken and a vegetable, usually broccoli, cooked either in water, or grilled. i also only drink water with lemon, and green tea with lemon, generally around a gallon a day combined.

anyone know what my problem could be? im kinda getting bummed out. currently at 330

    Hey there,

So there is missing data here... @330 how many calories are you consuming? a deficit will cripple your efforts, however, without proper information it is hard to diagnose.

I was almost 400 and got fed up with it and changed things that were hurting me .... Let me know how I can help.

Oh Jeez, we're going to get a million people in here telling us that your metabolism has slowed down and you need to eat more... (A thing that can happen only in people with a 6 pack trying to get their veins to show up)
While there may be some evidence for a minor slowing of metabolism, it never speeds back up more than the increase in food you're eating, so if you ease the dieting, you'll only get pretty much the same progress or less progress than before.

(and noone link me to Layne Norton the guy is just cruising for clients with his latest take on dietary sleight of hand)

Question: is everything crossing your lips going into the log, and are you weighing your food? Are you weighing all ingredients and entering those into the log, or are you approximating by general serving size?

Secondly, what scale are you using to weigh yourself? are you using the same scale every time? where is it sitting? is the floor level and does it take batteries?

Also, can you plz make your log public so we can get in there and take a look?

    I can't believe you're even conscious. I'm impressed.

I'm a 5'7 female and I eat over 2,000 calories a day, and lose weight.

    Ummm.....eat.

Also, if you have the money and are really dedicated, try investing in a Fitbit or BodyMedia device. I have a BodyMedia and it tells me exactly how many cals I burn a day, between breathing, sleeping, eating, sitting, standing, running, etc. And it auto-adjusts my daily goals on myfitnesspal throughout the day to coordinate with how much I've burned so far. It works GREAT.

Please eat more! You're completely screwing up your metabolism!!! Progress takes time. Up your calories and have patience. The weight will come off less quickly, but the amount of calories you're consuming now is so unhealthy

i just joined the site yesterday, so theres not much in my logs. im mostly going by package weight and splitting it up into as even portions as possible.

the scale im using is a digital scale that takes batteries and seems to be rather accurate, on a tile level bathroom floor.

edit: also, i understand that i might be hurting myself a little by not eating much, but honestly im always pretty full and have problems eating much more now.

what i read up on the very low calorie diet for obese people said not to really eat more than 800 a day, of course that was supposed to be under doctor supervision which i dont have... i am however taking multi-vitamins if that makes any difference

The same thing happened to me when I increased my exercise but after 3 weeks of no loss then a huge drop. Stick with what you are doing and the pounds on the scale will drop after your body adjusts to the water weight that is now stored in your muscles. Stick with what you have been doing, it is still working. I know how frustrating it is to not see the scale weight go down but you will be happy with the results if you just continue to do what you have been doing. It is okay to eat more calories if you feel you need it for nutrition or to give you enough energy for the exercise. But the more calories you eat, the slower the weight loss which is perfectly okay if it is what you think is best for you.

Cool, with your 800 calories a day, are you allowing yourself a fatty meal every week or so?

Everything sounds alright so far. Please just make sure you're eating reasonably nutritious foods and getting a reasonable ammount of protein. (most people seem to quit meat on very low calories)

Keep tracking everything for another week, and we'll see where you are then.

Symons got the right idea, your issue is likely just water weight.

It's hard to say without a few weeks worth of data to look at.

    1. Out of all the responses you're listening to the wrong person
    2. What a cop out, How did you get to 400lb? Eat, fuel your body, lose weight a healthy way. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change that needs to be sustainable for the rest of your life!

i got to be 400 pounds by eating about twice as much as i do now, with about 15 times the calories. 4 400 calorie burritos for a between meal snack for example. after 3.5 months of eating like this, its pretty easy to keep it up. yes i realize its a lifestyle change, i have no intentions of letting things get out of control again. if im able to sustain 5-800, im fairly certain i would be able to stay at a healthy amount when im done.

very low calorie diets for extremely overweight people that require you to eat 800 or less calories do in fact exist, of course i cant say how effective they are, so i cant say who is right or wrong here.

    thanks everyone for the info

its great that youre losing weight, but fyi my ex did that (lost a lot of weight really fast) and he had a lot of excess skin and had to get surgery to fix it, if you lose weight slower your skin has time to catch up and youre not killing your metabolism. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22Qp7sJJ7AE

You should change the way you're eating. Redo your profile and listen to what MFP suggests for you. Then choose mostly whole foods, raw foods, unprocessed foods. Keep away from too much prepackaged stuff and learn how to eat good, nutritious food.

You've been doing the VLCD for too long, let your body get used to eating real food in appropriate amounts again. You may find you gain in response, but give it a few weeks and your body will be very happy and start responding.

Ideally, your diet should be what you can sustain for life, get used to a good, satisfying one.
