Should I snack??

Ive been reading alot that it is bad to have snacks between meals.

I do snack approx 3 hours in between meals (E.g. Brekky at 6am, snack at 9am and lunch at 12)

I hear it's good to boost your metabolism.

My snacks are usually fruit, vegies, peanuts or a health bar.

Should I be stopping this???

I guess different people have different approach. I try to stick to 5 "meals", 2 of them being snacks - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Mostly fruits, coffee, or pre-workout snack.

My suggestion would be, no. Don't stop it. Of course, if you're not hungry, don't push it either. :)

My two pence: Do what's right for you. You like snacks, snack! By the sound of it, they are good ones anyways, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you feel that your main meals are becoming too small and don't keep you satisfied because you are spending too many calories on snacks, reduce them!

ETA: Just to be sure, you are logging them, right?

i have a morning snack, afternoon snack and pre workout snack. (as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner)

as long as you have a calorie deficit you will lose weight.

eat however best suits you and is sustainable.

I have found that regardless how many times I eat a day, or what I actually eat, so long as I am under my calorie goal for the day or a couple over, I still lose weight steadily and I don't feel hungry!!

Having said that, I'm usually good at exercising but am unable to for a short while (docs orders) so I'm keeping my eye on it a little more but still stick to my 1200 cals per day. The scales will tell me at the end of the week whether that was a good idea or not.

I don't believe how much you eat per meal or snack matters, nor does when you eat them. The only meal I have all day that's over 400 calories is my dinner. The rest is picked away at 100 - 200 calorie snacks or mini-meals throughout the day. A 300 calorie "lunch" is the next closest thing to a meal for me.

Whatever works for you as long as you are staying near your goal.

Eat when you want that allows you to stay in your calories and doesn't leave you wanting to gnaw your arm off. Other than that meal/snack timing doesn't matter.

I don't think I could get through the day without snacks, I usually have 2-4 snacks (5-7 "meals") depending on my work schedule and when I get up/go to bed. If I don't snack I either get too hungry and over eat ( sometimes to the point of feeling ill) at the next meal or I have trouble getting to sleep (esp after a 3 am wakeup from the hospital nights I'm on call). Sometimes that "snack" is just a glass of milk or piece of fruit, but for me they are necessary. Snacks also help because of the variability of my meal times when I work, I try to go to lunch at 12 but if we are busy, I may note eat til 3, at night I try to eat around 7 but if we are busy that may not happen until 10 or later. Snacks are a lifesaver for me.

In my opinion, if you're genuinely hungry, have a small healthy snack--something protein based is preferable. make sure to drink 8-10 ounces of water with it. Count it against your calories/macros. It will keep you from binging and keep your blood sugar stable.

I don't believe in snacking for the sake of snacking though.
