I am looking to purchase a hybrid bicycle. My limit is $500. I am looking at the Diamondback Vital 2.
Anyone own one or have a recommendation for the best quality hybrid for under $500?

I have a Trek Neko and I love her. I "think" she was around 500 and some change at our local bike shop!0

Find one from a real bike store. Try to get one with a stiff front fork.
Cheap suspensions suck. (And htey rob power anyway.)
Look for a lifetime warranty. Then comfort. Then look at the components used.
"Last years bikes" are always the best deal.0 -
I'd recommend going to your local bike shop and trying out a couple in your price range. Different brands fit differently, and your comfort is very important. If the bike isn't comfy, you won't ride it. I have two bikes, one a Specialized road bike, and one a Trek mountain bike. With each bike, I knew immediately when I got on it that it was perfect for me. I tried many that weren't...0

I have a Fuji Absolute I bought about 5 years back . Not a serious bike rider, but I've been happy with it.0

Make sure you *want* a hybrid - I like my Giant Cypress (great bike, at your price point), but I rode it a summer before I fell down the cycling rabbit hole and bought a road bike and a cyclocross bike. The cypress is gathering dust now, waiting for me to tune it up and sell it. Jack of all trades, master of none.
That being said, the Giant Cypress is a great bike. If you don't know a ton about bikes, head to your Local Bike Shop and they'll set you up.0 -

This is great advice. "Hybrid" is a very vague term , and a good local bike shop is worth all the tea in China. The most important thing about your bike is that it fits you properly. Bike fit can be a lot like clothing, a small in one brand could be too long in the leg, another brand has the seat too far from the bars, third bike is juuuust right. Try them out for size and see how they fit you.
What do you want your bike for? A hardtail mountain bike can be extremely versatile, throw on a rack and some road tyres and you're good for a world tour. Chunky tyres and you're ready to blast the trail. As long as it fits you, it'll be good.0
