Breakfast before a 10k run (6.2 miles)

I'll be running 10k tomorrow morning, well attempting to anyway :-) and wondered what would be a good breakfast, last weekend I ran 7.5k and ended up with really bad stomach pain that lasted the rest of the day and I'm thinking maybe I didn't eat enough or didn't eat the right thing before running. I generally eat 2-2.30 hrs before running.

Good luck at your race tomorrow! I've done some 10ks and some 1/2 marathons and eating oatmeal when I wake up works best for me (which is usually a few hours before the race actually starts) And then about an half hour to an hour before the race I'll eat a cliff bar. I've never had any stomach issues with that.

    Good luck!

I have done this almost exactly and it worked well for me also

I think the most important thing is to only eat food you are accustomed to. Don't try anything new on race day!

I generally don't eat before running. I drink plenty of water. If I have to eat I'll have a power crunch bar.

I've had stomach issues with running as well. If you can, I would try eating maybe at least 3 hours earlier. High carbs are my choice. Running's not much fun when you have a bunch of food jarring around in there.

10K I wouldn't worry to much because its a over pretty quick, unless its a couple hours different than my morning run. Probably oatmeal or banana is a good bet 30-45 minutes before.

Thank you for your suggestions, race is in a couple of weeks I'm still training so I'd like to get it sorted before race day. It's only the second time I'm running 10k I'm new to this running thing so still "finding my feet".
  • Before any race that I have ran (and long runs over an hour), I eat whole wheat toast with peanut butter, honey, and sunflower seeds. Five half-marathons (and counting). However, I agree with other runners, I would not change a routine the night before. Good luck with your race!:smile:
