Hello! Just wondering if going over the recommendation for protein is a bad thing in the long run...seems I'm consistetly over just based on what I prefer to eat. Not sure how that may affect weight loss...

MFP's default for protein is 15% of total calories which is dreadfully low. Don't worry about going over as long as you're staying within your calorie limit.
Most people customize their macro %s and I recommend you do to. Go to My Home>>Goals>>Change Goals>>Custom. Save your changes.
My macros are set to 45/30/25 carbs/protein/fat. Another popular split is 40/40/20. Choose whatever is right for you. While you're in the customizing screen I suggest you increase fiber to at least 25g and decrease sodium to 1800-2100mg (the lower the better).0 -
Depends on how your % are set up - the default has pretty low protien goals. When I was tracking (going to get back on that here soon) I had to go in and switch mine to reflect the way I eat, as I eat high protien & fat and lower carb0

Like the others said, MFP sets the protein goal really low so when I first started only 2 weeks ago, I had this same question and was told that it was not bad to go over in protein intake. Then I learned that it would be good to up my % of protein and now I no longer go over my daily goal, but still get the same amount of protein.0

no, thats great!
The protein goal for MFP is low to begin with... considering most people here are trying to lose fat and maintain (or gain) muscle, it is very low.0 -
I had noticed that as well (going over my protein goals every day). Thank you for posting how to correct this!0

Thanks!! I think I will go an adjust.0

No it's not bad depending on where you are getting it. If the bulk of your protein is from high fat sources like dairy then you might want to seek other sources. But if getting a lot of protein is making you go over your calorie goal you might want to re-evaulate your diet. But before someone says it, protein isn't the secret to weightloss and you don't need 400grams a day to lose weight. Js0

My doctor told me that if I am craving sugar, it means I am not getting enough protein. I have been trying to eat a little extra in order to curb my sweet tooth. It definitely works!0

I have to eat higher protein (due to eating lower carbs, due to being diabetic) I have read up on this and pretty much most say, if you don't have any kidney issues/disease it won't hurt you to up the protein.0
