So. I was suggested that I need to bump my intake if I want to see results. However, I'm worried about it. Does the TDEE method truly work? How long does it take?

it works
your TDEE is an estimate of how many calories you burn each day. Eat less than this number, and you'll lose weight. If you have a lot of weight to lose, 20% less is ideal. If you're just looking to lose the last few lbs of stubborn fat and you're already at a health weight, then 10% is best.
don't be afraid to eat more, I've been eating loads and not even tracking with the aim to gain strength while doing the 5x5 stronglifts program, and I've actually lost about 0.5-1lb when I've been eating to try to gain weightt. And I wasn't even undereating before.0 -
How long does it take?
Slow and steady is the BEST way to lose weight.0 -
It doesnt work any better than following MFP and eating your excerise cals back. Your weight loss will be most likely be slower also.0

You're over half-way so you're doing well. A good point to take a quick check:
Are you logging your calories
are you logging accurtely - weighing pasta etc. to make sure your portions aren't creeping up
Are your levels set correctly for your weight and activity level
are you eating back exercise calories
If the answers to all the above are "yes" then you should continue to lose weight with the standard mfp settings, although it may have slowed down a bit because now you weigh less you are using fewer calories to just move yourself about your day, without taking any exercise into account. As far as I can work out, the TDEE method works best when you've lost a fair bit and aare finding the MFP levels too low now you are leaner - that's why I'm giving it a try (sort of - i'm giving myself fewer calories than TDEE-20% but eating back exercise calories i/o setting myself an activity level and eating that flat rate).
But there's lots of people who know more than me.0 -
what is this TDEE method?
TDEE stands for Total Daily Energy Expeniture,
Put less energy into your body than it uses and you will loose weight.0 -
Losing weight has nothing to do with eating more or less.
The basic prinicpal of energy tells us that the less energy you eat, the more your body will need to make up for, thus losing weight.
If you binge regularly or are not honest with yourself about what you eat (or are underestimating calories) then you will not be losing weight.
Whatever you eat, if its less than your body requires than you will lose weight.
I eat 1200kcals a day and I am losing at a rate of 1lb a week. I am honest with what I am eating in my diary good or bad.0 -
Babe trust me, eat more!
last week i only lost 2lbs because i was undereating and excersises, so i literally wasnt even having 1000 cals a day,
the week before i was eating 1900 cals and burning off 200-300 cals and i got 7lbs!
I have to force myself to eat more but little and often is good for me, snack on stuff-
My favorites - water crackers with low fat cream cheese and smoked salmon drizzle with lemon juice.
Rice cakes - topped with humous (low fat) and cucumber i drizzle everything with lemon at the moment but u dont have to.
raw carrotts, celery, cucumber with humous (low fat) or just on their own.. LOVELY
hope this helps you! (i never dreamed i would ever enjoy eating rice cakes ect,... but i have them everyday now)
good luck xx0 -
Thanks everyone (:0

Best move I ever made was switching to the TDEE method. I've had my best success with losing the fat since doing so. Don't be afraid - it works!
