Best time to exercise???

I work M-F in an office, so I'm thinking I should probably get in a workout on a stationary exercise bike or running before going to work in the morning. I read that it jump starts your metabolism and hopefully continues to burn while I'm sitting at my desk until my shift ends, hoping it's as effective as it sounds. I also want to do runs after work sometimes too though, so idk if that's bad to do this twice in one day?

From everything I've read, there's nothing wrong with working out twice in one day. Whether it's cardio-cardio, resistance training-cardio, or vice versa. You may want to keep track of your hydration, and make adjustments from time to time. You may have to drink water a little bit more often (even if you're not thirsty) on the bi-daily workouts. Good luck! Hope that works well for you.

Drinking 8 cups a day as recommended so far, thank you for the advice!

If you don't wear yourself out, I think it's ok. I personally get too hungry if I work out more than once a day. All I can think about is eating!

Only you and your body can answer these questions. Try it, see what works and modify as needed. If you are not already working out before work, it might take a couple of weeks for your body to get used to it. Personally, when I started working out in the morning before work it was great for the next couple of hours and then I would just get really tired. That got better over time.

Depending how hard you push yourself in your morning workout, a run later might have your legs feeling really heavy. But I don't think it can hurt you.

You need to exercise when you can fit it into your day. A long time ago used to workout in the evening, now its a 530 in the morning before work. Its just what fits. Also two days a week I have a bootcamp training in the evening.

    Good luck to you.

twice a day is fine as long as you are getting enough sleep and nutrition.

As for when specifically, it doesn't matter. Whenever you are feeling the strongest and able to sustain your intensity the best. If that's first thing in the morning, then that's best. If that's afternoon, then afternoon is best. It's about effort, not timing.

As long as you rest when needed and don't overexert yourself you are fine to workout twice a day. I have been doing insanity in the mornings and then usually take my pooch for a long walk after work or go for a run. Next week I'm going to start doing Insanity in the mornings and lifting in the evenings because my schedule permits for it (I work 7-4:30)

Make sure you listen to your body. If you are sore (out of the ordinary) take a rest day. Up your water and calorie intake to make sure you are getting what you need.

Best success I have had was when I was doing weights in the morning, work then go back and do cardio.

Really, the best answer is the one that you can stick to.

The best time to exercise, is that time that you're more likely to get it done. I'd rather get my routine in each day than try to find the 'perfect' metabolic time to exercise.

I figure 1 hour of lifting at a non ideal time (metabolically) is better than none (because I missed my window and will try to hit it tomorrow instead).

I say what others say if do not overworked yourself you should be fine. =) however, I read and heard it better to workout before starting your day because the rest of the day is already busy with something. (being active for the rest of the day.)

but if you think you haven't done enough in the morning before work because of time consuming. a jog or walk or whatever else you like to do after work is good. as long you can keep yourself active a few hours after the workout.

I personally work out in the morning. I think it just all depends on how your day is.

Don't be afraid to split up your work outs...half morning half evening.. Just don't over train yourself.

The best time is..... whenever you will do it.

Cardio generally burns the most calories only while you are doing it.
