Help! I've stopped losing weight

Options
Hi, I have lost 13 pounds in about 25 days, but for a week now the scales haven't moved. I know I lost those 13 pounds quickly so maybe I am just being impatient. I haven't done anything different, I eat 1400 calories a day. My friend suggested I "switch it up" and eat 1600 calories one day and 1200 the next to encourage my body to lose. I am really starting to get discouraged. What do you think? Any other suggestions?

definitely switch it up, you will hit probably 4 or 5 plateaus on your weight loss journey.

i hit one for the whole month of July, i added 200 calories to my day and i finally lost an extra pound.

good luck and dont let this discourage you, gotta work to get passed it! i have hit 2 already and it sux but you can get passed it!

    Krissy,

Relax for a bit. Just keep doing what you're doing for another 2 weeks at least. Weight loss isn't linear, it happens in fits and starts. 1 week with no movement isn't a problem at all as long as it doesn't effect your motivation. If you get to 3-5 weeks and nothings happening, then you definitely want to change something up.

Consistency is key to this game.

This is something another member posted that I am trying to do because I haven't been losing weight for a month now.

"I thought that some of you might be interested in this article about breaking that plateau, http://www.everydayhealth.com/fitness-specialist/dealing-with-weight-loss-plateaus.aspx?xid=nl_EverydayHealthDietandNutrition_20100726"

The site Edestiny posted has really good advice. Another thing I would do is look for foods which boost your metabolism as well, such as:
    Popcorn
    Cinnamon
    Curry
    Soy milk
    Oatmeal
    Broccoli
    Jalapenos
    Beans
    Spinach
    Apples
    Turkey
    Coffee
    Almonds
    Yogurt
    Green tea
    Grapefruit

Obviously with the fruits watch your sugar intake, and your calorie intake, but these are foods which actively boost your metabolism, which is probably the reason you stopped losing. I would say use these to up your caloric intake as recommended on that site. Good luck!

Well done on the loss so far :drinker: :drinker:

I cannot see your diary so altho you may be staying within the cals how are the other entries? Namely Sodium, Carbs, Protein .. etc OR are you going slightly under the cals some days  Believe it or not I posted a thread recently and got some people to look at my diary as I was starting to reach a wall and after several suggestions when I ate more lol I started losing again

Also as you say you lost it fairly quickly maybe your body just needs time to catch up

Best of luck on your journey :flowerforyou:

Like someone else said, weight loss isn't linear. Just live through your plateau. Don't worry about. Stress increases cortisol levels which is counter-productive to weight loss. It's hard because you are used to the awesome weight loss you've had so far. Keep up the good work. Your body will catch up before you know it. Do not get discouraged. It happens to everyone.

You haven't lost anything for a week? I didn't either one week, but my measurements had decreased so I wasn't bothered about the scales. The following week the weight was losing again.

If it bothers you that much, stick another exercise day in.

Don't freak out on a week, its easy to do. Also stop weighing your self MORE than once a week. I used to weigh every day or every other day and it brings stress and frustration, which can affect your body in negative ways. You lost a lot too quickly, and it's your body catching up. If you've been excersising, you body is probably building up muscle, so you may be getting smaller still, but muscle is heavier than fat, so the scale won't show much of a difference. This is sometimes why people lose large amouts right away, then slow. Again, don't freak out, you're doing great. Be proud of what you've done so far, and stay steady on it.
