Side hurting while running

Why does my side (mainly the right side) hurt when I run lately? It's never done that before and now all of the sudden it's hurting. I wait a few hours after eating, I drink tons of water and I'm not over doing it. Any ideas?

I have the same issue, same side. I've had it happen when I run too fast. I watch my heart rate to keep it from going too high (for me too high is 158+) and slow my pace if it gets close to that. After I slow down I try to mentally block the pain and run through it. The pain subsides without my noticing it or having to stop running or take a walk break.

Ok, thanks! I have actually been trying to run faster (I am a VERY slow runner) so maybe I'll go back down to my normal pace. Thanks again! I'll try to watch my heart rate more than calories burned on my HRM now

Check that out. Gives a pretty decent explanation of side stitches.

I've found that I can make my side stiches go away during my run by watching my breathing. Make sure to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth - very slowly and controlled. If i do this when I notice a stich coming on, I'm almost always able to get it to stop.
