Insanity Program Driving Me Insane

Hey Ya'll. I am in week four of Insanity and absolutely love the program. I am literally drenched in sweat after each workout (besides the recovery days). I honestly feel its a great conditioning program, however I cannot seem to understand why I am continually gaining weight with Insanity. I have gained 5 pounds in 4 weeks with the program. I am not following the diet plan, but eat relatively healthy anyways! My goal when beginning Insanity was not to lose weight, but to maintain and tighten/strengthen my core. I have noticed my love handles actually getting bigger (major bummer) but my thighs/ back looking much better. I am so confused. Many people say its muscle and in month two is where the belly fat results will begin... but I am just so discouraged to even continue if I keep gaining like this. Anyone else experience weight gain during Insanity during the first month?

You could be retaining water in you're muscles due to the frequency of the workouts0

Also I would ditch the scales and take measurements,it's a better guide in change imo0

Yeah, I try not to do the weighing thing too often, however I find myself obsessing over it if I do not weigh in at one point or another. Even with the weight gain, my clothes are not tight and are still fitting perfectly, so I suppose that is a plus. I am eating about 1550 calories a day, but the beach body website claims I should be eating around 1,800 while doing Insanity. I am not really willing to up my calorie intake if I am already gaining weight eating what I have been eating all along.0

Gaining weight and holding excess water aren't really the same thing hence the taking measurements I think would be the way to go,what are you're goal/targets0

My main goal is to lose about 5 pounds and tighten my core in the next two months. I want to get rid of the love handles that appeared in the last four months. I was about 115 on January 1st of this yr, went up to 125 (which is what I am now). Was 120 before I began Insanity though which was approx 4 weeks ago. I am assuming its water weight. However, I see much more muscle definition in my legs/thighs. I do think I need to watch my sodium intake, salt is the devil for me. I will begin taking my measurements so I can see whats going on with my body!0

With those goals in mind strength training will be you're best friend0

I saw my weight go up by about 4 pounds after the first two weeks of Insanity.
By the end of the next two weeks, I saw those 4 pounds (and more) disappear.0 -
Cese and Jeremy, thanks for your replies! I appreciate it. Jeremy, it's nice to know I am not the only one who had a little weight gain. I am not one to quit a program, especially considering I am almost halfway through, so I will keep on...I just hope I don't end up gaining a ridiculous amount by the end of the entire program lol.0

Stick with it.0

I was more or less your same weight and exactly the same happened to me..in fact I put on 6 lbs. I am now about 5 lbs total loss but a lot smaller so decided to ditch the scales..lovehandles could be your obliques getting bigger and also retaining fluids. mine got massive (s I lost weight on hips underneath they stick out more) seriously do not worry about weigh and measure by inches. Your muscles will swell up too.0

I had no weight change with Insanity but did lose inches- and for me that was more important.
Not to bring you down but I did not lose ANY inches off my stomach during the last month.0 -
I have done 3 rounds of Insanity and during phase one I always gain 4-7 lbs but loose that plus 10 more in phase two. I usually disregard my weight and measurements though and instead take weekly pics when I do Insanity that way I know It is working regardless of the numbers!0

Thanks everyone
I am definitely sticking with it. I hope month two shows me at least something, so I don't feel I am passing out in a puddle of sweat everyday for nothing lol!

I've been maintaining so far but I'm only on week 2 of Insanity. I'm 183.4 pounds currently and I'd like to reach 155 lbs by the end of the year. I notice the different in my clothes. I have more room in my shirts and can't keep some pants up anymore. And yet the scale still hovers around 183.4-185. I notice a HUGE different in my body. It seems like my body is tighter and more trim. My mother saw me the week before I started and then when I went to visit her earlier this week she remarked how much thinner I looked and more toned.
It's hella frustrating for the scale to not be moving any, but I'm going to stick it out. It's only 2 months and I'll be happy to build some muscle since it really helps in my training for my first 10K in November. I think the scale will move again soon. It just takes a while for my body to adjust to the new demands.
Good luck and hang in there! :flowerforyou:0 -
Someone please help me figure this out!! I'm in week 2 of 2nd month. I don't weigh myself so have no idea if I've lost any actual weight, howeverI do know that I have lost nearly 2 inches from my waist, an inch from my chest BUT I have gained an inch on my calves and thighs!!!! And my legs are specifically the area I wanted to slim down....
Any suggestions!?!?!?0
