Overweight Anorexia survivor

Hello everyone :) As a recluse I'm actually excited to finally share my weight loss plans in public, so I think it is a good idea to tell you guys where I'm starting off from.

5 years ago, in 8th grade I lost around 30 pounds off of my already small 95 lb - 4'11 ft frame. It was obviously a mental issue which got hold of me and it never seems to rub off in any way. Ever since that period of 3 months and being forced to gain weight I've not only become a binge eater but gained around 50 more pounds as a result of unhealthy yo-yo dieting and binging (the usual deal with EDers).

Now I have to deal with the pressure of getting at a HEALTHY weight (meaning doing it in a HEALTHY way) before applying myself in life without the irritation of being overweight. My metabolism obviously isn't as high as it should be, but I am a teenager so I usually am able to lose 3 lbs within my first week of healthy eating. As I said before, I have tried losing weight but only yo-yoing the cycle.

I'm mainly looking for tips to keep myself motivated considering the emotional challenges I have with food and my self-image. Also, how many pounds do you think I could lose? On "non-binging" or "non-self-destructive" days my exercise consists of dancing + running in 2 15-min intervals each day and consuming about 1800 calories. What improvements should I consider?

I'm in a similar boat. I've lost weight unhealthfully and got pretty thin, but now I'm a little bit too heavy and I want to get to a place where I'm happy and healthy.

You could try adding in weights! They will help you build lean muscle and up your metabolism! Good luck and feel free to add me!
  • I think you have good goals. Feel free to add me too!

I've been there, done that too - at age 16, I was 5'9 and 118. Now at a better weight but want, as 11hammicks said, find a place that's happy and healthy.

Right there with you too. I have no tips or advise other than to say that getting stronger and healthier feels SO MUCH BETTER than just getting skinnier. Feel free to add me if you like

I learned in my recovery that your weight is never going to make you happy, learn to love your body first, then the weight will come off easier (and in a healthy manner) because the goal won't be to find the "happy" weight, there is none, especially for those of us with body dismorphia. You still in treatment and have you talked to someone (parent, therapist, family doctor) about this?

Stopping by just to tell you that I've also lost weight (and subsequently gained it afterwards) through disordered eating patterns, VLCDs, and so on. I'm finally doing this healthily and feel so much better.

You might not see progress right away and experience a bit of a gain after coming off of a VLCD but you WILL lose it and can get to a normal, healthy (neither underweight nor overweight) weight.
