For those who workout in the mornings!

I really enjoy working out in the morning. However, I am being thrown for a bit of a loop. I moved this passed weekend and to avoid sitting in traffic for hours I have decided to drive to the gym early in the morning close to work and do an hour long morning workout. However, here is my dilema. I wake up at about 4:45 or 5 and have about a 45 minute drive to the gym. Then I workout for an hour, shower and get ready for work, and then drive 20 or 30 minutes to work.
I'm looking for ideas of when I should eat breakfast. I normally would workout on an empty stomach when I lived 5 minutes from the gym and ate breakfast when I got home. This morning I had a piece of toast with peanut butter before I left and then a protein bar after my workout at the gym while I got ready. This doesn't strike me as the most healthy breakfast and was a little under 300 calories I believe. I was perfectly full until 10:30ish and had a small snack. I know they say breakfast is supposed to be your biggest meal espeically after a workout but I'm not sure how to make this all work. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
Jess

If you are sticking within your calorie goal for the day then breakfast doesn't HAVE to be your biggest meal of the day. All my meals throughout the day are actually around the same calorie count (between 200-400 cals) and I still see the weight coming off. So, don't worry too much... I think what you are eating sounds good. Try adding a piece of fruit in there as well, it's easy for grab and go0

I would eat a good protein breakfast before I leave - try searching www.hungry-girl.com for Egg Mugs (in the microwave) - or yogurt - and bring a protein bar for after!0

i work out in the morning too! i get up around 5:20am, i will usually drink my coffee, eat a bowl of cereal or oatmeal get dressed and head to the gym....then about 9 or 10ish i have either peanut butter toast or cottage cheese or even eggs and bacon for what i like to call "my second breakfast"...this keeps me full until around 1pm for lunch time!
the oatmeal if im running late is great because you can boil the water and add it to the packet in a to-go cup and eat it on the drive to the gym!0 -
I work out in the mornings as well....I usually only have a fruit before going to workout, it is not recommended to have a meal within 1 hr of your workout, a fruit or something small
After I get home, I have my protein shake and my breakfast0 -

That's what I have heard. I just had a piece of toast this morning to hold me over since I have a 45 minute drive just to get TO the gym. And I'm not anywhere near a microwave or anything until 8:30. I'm definitely a girl on the go! Thank you all for the suggestions this far!0
