So... A few days ago for four days, I ate under by about 200-300 calories per day (of maintenance), then, the last 3 days I have overeaten by A LOT. I got on the scale and was up five pounds. It is realistic to have gained 5 lbs. in 3 days? I am very concerned because I have eaten quite a bit.

Thanks!

I'd think it's probably due to sodium. 3500 calories makes a pound of fat so you would have had to over eat by 17,500 calories to gain 5 lbs.

5 lbs is 17,500 calories... So unless you ate that on top of the calories your body needs to keep going every day, it's highly unlikely. Unless you at a few lbs of butter.

It's most likely water retention due to sodium in the food, and the actual weight of the food.

Sodium = Bloating = Water Retention = Unreal Weight Gain.

Did you eat 17500 calories OVER maintenance the last three days combined? No? Then relax, most of your gain is water, excess food working its way through your digestive system, etc.

Doesn't sound unusual to me...I bounce up and down all week and past 2 weeks when I've lost it's been 2-3 lbs at one time. Hormones are hell.

You didn't gain 5 pounds of fat in 3 days. It's mostly water weight. Don't worry about it...just get back to your normal eating plan and it will be gone in a few days. Even one bad meal has sometimes caused me to wake up 2 lbs heavier. Back on track and no big deal :)

I go up and down about 4lbs during the week, easy. No big deal, the body's weight naturally fluctuates due to water, sodium, hormones, whatever. As the others have said, you didn't gain 5lbs pounds of fat in three days.

It's sodium. Trust me!!! I went on vacation in the mountains with my husband last summer for four days. When I got back, I had gained 10 POUNDS in those four days.

Those lbs were gone in under a week.
