I am the definition of an overeater. I start every morning with a very healthy breakfast, but I pig out all day and by the end I've eaten 3,000 calories. I hate myself. I hate the way I look, I hate the way I feel
why do I keep eating? It's not fair. Everyone else gets to be beautiful but I have to be a 185-pound beast. I'm 5'8". I should be about 140 pounds! Please help. If you have any suggestions for foods that make you feel full and ways I can stay out of the refrigerator, please let me know. I'm also very lonely. My husband works third shift and I barely ever see him. I'm alone most of the day, except for when I'm at work. I know I need to lose the weight, so why do I sabotage myself? Anyone else going through this? I'm afraid I'm going to have a heart attack soon, and I'm only 33.

What kind of things are you eating during the day? I usually just stick to a salad with chicken for most of my meals and just drink a ton of water. The water aspect really keeps my cravings down.0

Welcome and please settle down, you are 40 pounds overweight, this is not the end of the world. follow MFP settings get some exercise and drink plenty of water and you will lose weight. Do not look for miracles, do not starve yourself. Eat the calories you are given and weigh everything at every meal except yourself(do that maximum once a week) Good luck, there are many people on here who can support you and help.0

Protein and healthy fats will help with feeling satisfied. My protein is about 40% and my fats are about 35% of my calories. I REALLY try to watch my carbs as they (or my f it attitude...lack of will power) like me to binge. My diary is open if you'd like to look. You can do it. Stay strong.0

Protein helps me feel full but if you're stress / emotional eating because your lonely, you may eat even when you feel full. You need to find another outlet for your loneliness / boredom / stress or whatever is causing you to turn to food. Go for a walk or jog, do some jumping jacks or jump rope for 5-10 minutes every time you get the urge to go to the fridge. Plan out your meals ahead of time and stick to it. Don't keep junk food in the house. Log your food so you can see what you're really eating. Sometimes just putting it out there and seeing it is enough to make you want to change. Railr0aderTon is right, it's 40 pounds and not the end of the world. If you make a plan and stick to it you can have most of that if not all of it off in 6 months.0

I find that going to the refrigerator is hard to. I get the alone part, there myself. What I have done is set myself up. I only have good snack food in my house. I treat my snacks like six small snack meals a day. I snack on triscuts and if my my meal plan says I can then I have hummus. celery and peanut butter, but I set my limits on those to. I eat watermelon, but not to much because of the sugar. I have even started limiting my coffee. It does seem hard, but to be honest, I have been doing this for less then 2 weeks. When I changed what I snacked on from something way to high in calories, to some of the things I have listed. I found myself surprised about how much I could eat and loss weight. I even got to have Chicken spaghetti for dinner tonight. I myself am 261, and am 5'11'' and my perfect weight is 180. So I have a ways to go, but start little, change your snacks to health, but stuff you like. I promise if my 2 bowl a day Rocky road eating, sweet tea drinking, and soda addicted self can do it. I promise you can.0

Remember thirst and hunger are the same cues in your body. If you think your hungry try drinking something if your still hungry eat something small. I use to have a note on my fridge that said you're not hungry your bored, grab some water and go sit down.
Try eating foods high in fiber and protein, it takes longer in your body to break down so it keeps you full longer.
If your hungry and it's be 30 min to an hour after you've eaten go take a walk or something.
If you just eaten and your still finding yourself wanting to eat, go brush your teeth (honestly what is the LAST thing you want to do after you brush your teeth)
Sometimes I chew some really minty gum, sometimes it's just the aspect of chewing you want and the mint left afterwards keeps me from wanting to eat again.
Try to replace eating with another hobby.0 -

I am 34, 5'6" and was 177 a couple of months ago. While I didn't feel great about myself, I certainly didn't consider myself a beast. My husband also works nights and has been working weekends for a couple of months now, so I get where you are lonely. I don't have time to be lonely, I keep myself busy doing things I enjoy. Working opposite shifts can have its advantages you know, when my husband and I are together, we don't take any of our time for granted. Every moment is precious so we rarely argue. If you want some additional support feel free to friend me, we have a lot in common :-)0 -
Wow, you guys are so sweet. So many replies in only a couple of minutes! I will start really paying attention to what I eat tomorrow. I'll also drink a lot of water....and get moving! I work at a desk all day and I'm also a full time student. I am on summer vacation right now, so I have a lot of time on my hands. I'll start by taking a walk tomorrow morning. Everyone, please feel free to friend me... I need all the support I can get, and I'll be glad to support and listen to all of you!!! This is the first time I've signed up to be part of an online community (besides Facebook--certainly couldn't tell all of those guys how bad I feel) and I am in LOVE. I'll be logging in every single day. Have a nice night, everyone. I'm going to go grab a book and get ready for bed. Tomorrow begins a new chapter in my life... I'm so excited!0

Have you ever tried going to over eaters anonymous? There might be more support there and its free..0

I'm 32yrs old, I'm 5"7 and weigh 157 .....but I was at 185 before..yes it's miserable , but get supportive friends , eat healthy , and exercise...you'll be fine..don't be so hard on yourself ...0 -
Are you absolutely sure you are 40 lbs overweight? There really is a big range of healthy weight wise for your height 126-167 if your ideal weight is at the top of that then you would on'y be 20 lbs or so overweight. If you have access to some calipers and someone that can do that body fat test then you will have a more accurate idea of what you need to lose. Otherwise measure your wrist to find out if you are big boned or not. If your wrist is over 6.5 then you are large boned and should stay closer to the top of the height weight scale. If you are small framed then of course going down farther than 140 won't be unhealthy.0

I agree with steely!!!!!!!!!!! I'm 5"7 ,weigh 157 .....I would look terrible if I went down to low range of what is "acceptable" my wrist is 7.5 inches........everyone carries their weight differently so don't be so hard on yourself0

First off your not alone. Second your beautiful, but only can see it when once you accept it. Your obviously reaching for help here so take the next step and find someone you can trust and start a support system. There are groups and usually free. That said one of the easiest things to do is eat based on convenience. I keep my veggie drawer always stocked buts that wasn't good enough for me where most of it the first week went bad so I started making a veggie tray as if I was throwing a party and keep that stocked in the fridge at all times. Carrot sticks, celery, grape tomatoes, broccoli constantly on hand in bite sizes and I eat on that all day. I now have a problem making my calorie goal but the opposite problem. I don't get enough. So I get to treat myself daily at dinner so I can fill out my goal. Have the healthy food on hand. It is almost impossible to eat too many calories if your eating raw veggies. I hope that helps good luck. Sending you a friend invite accept it or not. I am happy to support fellow weight loss buddies.0

Oh sweetie, don't be so hard on yourself. That is probably what is causing you to take food into your comfort zone. You tell yourself that you are beautiful and you will try your best one day at a time. Love yourself first, it does make it easier. Good Luck and I send positive thoughts and prayers!0

Come and visit us over here - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/984483--supportive-friends-looking-to-release-50-pounds?page=2#posts-15194646 - it's not a group but has the same effect and you'll find support and friends there. We try to be positive (most of the time!) and it's a great on-going thread
oh - and don't worry about the 50+ pounds bit - it's by no means mandatory and like you I didn't have that much to lose when I joined it!0
