From Flab to Fab: clothing/style changes NSV's & pics pls!

One of the tremendous adventures in our getting slimmer & trimmer is (or can be) our "transforming", not only our body sizes downward, but perhaps changing our dress styles/our look too. Some of us, as we are/have been bigger/fat tend to dress frumpy, bummy and blah--and as we lose weight, perhaps some of us have changed our dressing styles too. Perhaps it is/was a new haircut/hairstyle, new fashion you've never dared tried because of your weight issues, etc. Perhaps now instead of your hubby's sweats and tees all the time, now you're rocking dresses & skirts or some other cute look--perhaps instead of tent-like looking/feeling clothes, now you're rocking leggings & boots, perhaps instead of always wearing gyms shoes and house shoes as your daily go tos...perhaps now you're rocking cute ballet flats, or even higher heels--ya know stuff like like:
This thread is to inspire us, as we blossom into slim & trim-dom, perhaps we've created or like to have an entire "new" look for ourselves in the clothing, hair and overall style department. Please share your success stories and/or pics of going from flab to fab.
What was your look/style before?
Has it changed...and if so how?
What are some of your new flattering looks designers/shops/stores that you love?
What colors do you love and look tremendous on you?
What colors and styles look awful (on/to or for you) or just don't "suit" you?
Lastly, for those of us who are fashion savvy and know how to put a gorgeous look together (rather bigger or not)...pls. share some of your dressing for success and looking sharp tips!
Pls. do share and again, if you'd like...pics of the new you too!
ETA: This thread was/is aimed at woman...but fella's pls. feel free to post too!

The two biggest changes for me are that I enjoy shopping now and I don't wear track pants with elastic waists all the time anymore. I wear jeans just about every day now and I love it! I also don't feel drawn to wearing black all the time. Yesterday I bought a super cute aqua skirt. Love it! Can't wait to wear it!0
-
When I was thinner and lighter back in uni/college I used to live in jeans. As I got bigger my thighs got huge and wearing jeans became uncomfortable so I wore leggings and dresses more.
As I get smaller I will hopefully be able to return to wearing jeans more often! I have been shopping for summer dresses and I find myself caring a lot more - instead of "oh that will do" I weigh up weather it fits well enough to justify buying it (as I am still losing weight I am only buying second hand and cheap clothing)
What are some of your new flattering looks designers/shops/stores that you love? I have seen some amazing stuff by Monsoon and I adore some of the stuff by a designer named Joe Brown - he designs larger items and I hope I don't get too small to wear them because some are just beautiful (some are weird)
What colors do you love and look tremendous on you? Blues, and reds. Vivid colous
What colors and styles look awful (on/to or for you) or just don't "suit" you? Dresses with a "drop waist" (I think thats what it's called) where the waist is lowed closer to the hips as it hides my waist and makes me look round. Pale colours look terrible on me make me look washed out/ ill.
Wish I had some pictures to share but I am in no way a style guru and the new me is still emerging!0 -

How fabulous! Love no longer being a slave to black and dark and neutral clothes too. That aqua skirts sounds super cute!!!! WTG!!!!:drinker: Thanks so much for posting!0 -
I love tank tops now, and I cut my hair short. Before my arms were too fat to be caught in a tank, and I kept my hair long to make my face look slimmer (didn't really work lol). I definitely agree with the style change. The clothes that fit my body when I was heavier DO NOT look good on me now, and I'm ok with that. Colors too. Usually dull colors that don't make you stand out looked best..but now I love bright colors and fun fashions.0

My style before was anything dark and slouchy that would hide my rolls, and I stuck to flat shoes. Daily attire consisted of hoodies and jeans with uggs or moccasins.
It's definitely changed. For one thing, I wear way more color and patterns now. I've eliminated boot cut and flare jeans (only skinnies for me) from my wardrobe and I now wear them in every color, instead of sticking to dark washes. I still wear lots of flat shoes, but I've been buying more heels and wedges in anticipation of the weather getting nice. I love fitted dresses, skirts, rompers, shorts...anything that will show off my legs. My upper body still needs work, so I tend to keep it a little looser when it comes to tops, but my shirts are bright and have embellishments now, and I can play with different cuts and lengths, instead of sticking to the endless parade of plain black tee shirts I used to wear. I also am more into accessories now.
I love shopping at some of the UK retailers...ASOS, boohoo, places like that. H&M and Zara are also favorites.
They actually carry my size in the sale sections, so it's much more fun to buy things.
In terms of color, I like coral, greens, blues, yellows, whites, and oranges....anything bright.
I'm still avoiding crop tops and tanks because my belly and arms aren't where they need to be yet.
Backless is a no because I absolutely must wear a bra.
And anything with cutouts or mesh in the belly area is still a no-go, and I'm still not comfortable in a bikini.
I'm 5'4, 186, and I wear a size 12.
I used to be 5'4, 236, and I wore a size 22.0 -
What was your look/style before?
Slim&Trim...conservative but sassy & chic and classic=dresses, skirts, legging with a extra long shirt or skirt & bucks/booties/short low heel boots & bolero leathers or super cute jackets, ballet or mary jane t-strap flats and heels with dresses and skirts--how I LOVED wearing heels when I was slim (not supa high call girl heels, but sharp high heels shoes) I NEVER wear heels when I'm fat NEVER--I NEVER hardly ever wore jeans--when I was slim&trim, unless it was a blue jean outfit or some cool/chic/smart/super cute looking jean set. Ethnic looking outfits (India or old school Chinese or American Indian/southwestern Ralph Lauren style) Beautiful colors--girly-girl/feminine look to the MAX
Fat...Casual ONLY...dumpy & frumpy=hubby sweats & tees, gym shoes, big boxy clothes and ALWAYS with my shirt out and rather sloppy looking (quite frankly) and ALWAYS wearing jeans & tees--no make-up (even though I'm a natural beauty and don't need any--I used to wear a wee bit of blush and a touch of eye-liner when I was slim...fat--ZERO. NEVER wear dresses or skirts--always wearing dark or neutral colors. Always casual--jeans or sweats--totally ungirly.
Slim: sassy & chic haircut and nails & toes polished and manicured
Fat: long boring hair or in a ponytail--nails & toes ignored/plain
Has it changed...and if so how?
I'm starting to come out of my "fat bag" look and starting to wear dresses & skirts again, nails and toes always done--getting a sharp hair-cut once I get 30 more pounds down. I'm starting to wear and look like a girly girl again and feeling good about how I look and feel!
What are some of your new flattering looks designers/shops/stores that you love?
I love the looks from the 1920's-1930's & the 1950's-1960's--I love Eileen Fisher, Ralph Lauren, Diane Von Furstenberg, J. Jill, Oscar De La Renta, Michael Kors, Johnny Was, old school Donna Karan, Chicos, Target, Lucky Brand--for the more expensive brands I get them used or deeply on sale or styles like these designer make.
What colors do you love and look tremendous on you?
Fat: black/dark neutral colors
Slim: Reds, Orange, Purple, gorgeous India Inspired lovely colors and styles, Blues...all colors except for pink.
What colors and styles look awful (on/to or for you) or just don't "suit" you?
I like pink, and certain shades of gray (elephant gray especially --but pinks and certain lighter shades of gray look horrible on me) for some reason--maybe I unconsciously associate pinks with pigs:laugh: . Tight clothes look awful on me--trendy styles I stay away from, they look tacky on me--I look best in classic and timeless looks and lines.0 -
I am 5"5 and have so far dropped from a size AUS 16 to a size 14. I have lost most of my weight from my chest and legs. I am currently a 34E.
What was your look/style before?
Black or anything that I could get that could fit my chest. There is a god awful shapeless poncho in my cupboard.
Has it changed...and if so how?
I have discovered op or thrift shops. I care how I look.
I love colour and pattern- I love polka dots and stripes. I bought my 1st skinny leg jeans this week and I plan to throw out my bootlegs and straight legs. I am buying belts to split out my chest from my waist. I have stripe skirts and tops.
I now know that the most flattering skirt length is a few inches above the knee, and I'd rather wear a shaped jacket rather than a waterfall cardigan. I checkout blogs for my body shape and age- sure I may look a little different from others at the school drop off but it suits me.
What are some of your new flattering looks designers/shops/stores that you love?
I am in Australia, so I have recently discovered Gorman. I bought Leona Edmiston dresses when I started to lose.
I also keep an eye on girl with curves, wardrobe oxygen and beverley like hills, blogs.
I bought these pants recently- my legs look longer! http://www.gormanshop.com.au/sale/collage-landscape-pant.html
What colors do you love and look tremendous on you?
Clear colour- cobalt blue, sunshine yellow, teal blue, emerald green, ruby, navy
What colors and styles look awful (on/to or for you) or just don't "suit" you?
Black all over, camel (bleh...)
Flared, harem or poo-catcher pants,any top with a cowl neck.0 -
I love Gorman too! Such great colours and patterns. Although I don't yet own any (stay at home mum until recently - finances a bit tight!) its on the wish list. And Leona Edmiston dresses are so flattering.
Before - lots of black, couldn't be bothered with makeup.
Now - colour, skinny jeans, shorter skirts, heels. And I just spent a bomb on Benefit makeup that makes me feel like a million bucks. Next summer - bikini hopefully for the first time since I was 18 and starving myself.0 -
Leahsz- if you are in a Sydney or Melbourne, you should check out Gorman's clearance stores. Can't remember the name of the one in Sydney (its not Gorman but i found it on google)0

bump for later0

I used to wear a lot of jeans & t-shirts. Heck, I still like wearing jeans & tshirts. But I find myself liking to wear cute dresses & skirts a lot more. I actually don't mind wearing pink now. I used to never wear it and it seems like i'm always wearing it now.0

I've never heard of Monsoon nor Joe Brown...I just checked out Monsoon and found some super CUTE dresses by them that I LOVE and are so my style...I haven't got a chance to check out Joe Brown yet, but if he has anything like Monsoon, I'll like him too--THANKS so much for posting and this tip:drinker: :flowerforyou: :drinker: :drinker: Also, I appreciate the tip about the waist-line too.0 -

I'm going to wear tank tops and tank dresses too--only not too tight--love what you've said about your hair. I'm waiting until I get a bit more slimmer/trimmer before getting a chic/sassy new cut...but thinking about what you've said, maybe I'll get it cut a bit sooner for summer time. Love your post...thanks so much for replying! :flowerforyou:0 -
I'm enjoying this post and seeing others similar to me...
when I was curvier I wore lots of dresses and looked actually well in them for being curvy! But having lost over 16 pounds since last year I now prefer slim fitting shift type dresses instead of flared, full skirts..I don't need to hide my hips and tummy any more woohoo!
My legs and bottom are smaller and toned now so I LOVE wearing jeans to show off my shape..I can't believe I look this good now! I'm in my 40s and this is the best shape ever! Wow!
My muffin has all but disappeared, when it goes completely I'll be able to wear more fitted t shirts and tops
My clothes are all vibrant, colourful and usually patterned...I have a fun, energetic personality and my clothes echo who I am
Girls we have done brilliantly and the effort has been so worthwhile.
Next Sept my son gets married and guess whos gonna look slim, trim and fab ...ME lol
Have a good day everyone0 -

What was your look/style before?
Casual with a flare og baggy.
Has it changed...and if so how?
Still casual, but I got some smart-casual and cool-casual outfits. I still am afraid to go out of the more loose clothes zone, but I'm working on my body image.
What are some of your new flattering looks designers/shops/stores that you love?
I mostly dress from H&M and C&A as they are the only brand store around here that have plus sizes or Ls. And I love some of the H&M Big&Beautiful clothes. The only problem is that I am now a size 42-44 (euro size)... and the plus size stores seem to stop at 46-48... and the normal size store start their sizes at 36-38... yep... finding clothes is harder after losing weight. :explode:
What colors do you love and look tremendous on you?
I don't do colours... I have a grey thing  But I seem to look good in normal greens and blues (nothing to bright or strong).
What colors and styles look awful (on/to or for you) or just don't "suit" you?
I don't do neons, bright colors, red and so on. Being to smart or to sporty does not look good on me.
I don't have any actual advice, but I do love to get some inspiration from plus size fashion blogs:

Love your Wonderful post! I didn't know H&M had a collection called big and beautiful. Thank you so much for posting and for the link. You ROCK!0 -
I used to hate shopping and wore the same T-shirts over and over until they had holes in the pits, but now I blow more money than I probably should on clothes and shoes and even some jewelry (which I never used to use)....:D0

Great thread
I was reading a site the other day for women who have lost weight and one of thier suggestions was when trying stuff on in shops always add one crazy wild thing in a colour you never wear and mostly it wont work but sometimes it is magnificent. So today i did just that and it was so much fun! Having lost 68 lbs i dont really know what suits me. I have another 62 to go so am on hold really but getting to the point where I will need to buy something.
It is a good dilemma to be in but i think when i get to goal I may need some help.
Started to buy brighter coloured shirts instead of the trademark black0 -

You ROCK and thanks so much for posting! :flowerforyou: :drinker: :flowerforyou: That is super tremendous news, your muffin top has all but diasppeared--I LOVE that! I've still got some serious work to do, but my muffin top is no where near as huge and ugly as it was too--hate those blasted muffin tops!0 -
