New here :) Staying on track while away from home?

I'm probably the only one with this issue but I have a hard time staying on track when I'm with friends or family...not just out to dinner but when I'm visiting them in their home. Several friends, even my mother and my sister keep candy dishes or cookie jars full. I'm usually starving by the time I get to their place because the intent is to go to dinner...but while I'm waiting I raid the candy dish. Obviously this totally screws up my daily allowance. Before when I was dieting, I just stayed away from everyone for the first month and it worked LOL but it's a litle more difficult now.
I didn't have such a hard time staying on a plan when I was younger. I do very well for a couple of weeks, lose a few pounds but then go off of it and gain back. I'm trying to stay focused this time by using this site. I've enjoyed reading everyone else's stories

I just think to myself that if I eat that candy or sweet then I have just exercised for nothing.....it puts me back in focus...but don't deprive yourself of everything then you will really slip.....I know its hard, my weakness is pasta...hard not to eat it but I have stayed awy from it , slipped a few times in the last 2 months but not to the extend of gorging on it.......this board is very helpfull and the people on here are awesome!0

This is where I think we have the RIGHT to speak up for ourselves. I think I would be open and honest with your friends and family, perhaps even poking a bit of fun at yourself. "Hey Mom, I know you have the discipline to just eat one piece of candy once in awhile, but quite honestly, I don't! Would you mind if we moved this candy dish into the pantry while I'm sitting here? It's calling to me, and then I won't enjoy the great dinner you made."0

I used to do that going to my moms house--they always have candy etc out. What I started doing is eating a snack before I go over there or bring something to snack on with me once I get there before dinner. Its healthier and you control what you eat that way...
and welcome to MFP0
