    Hi!
Bobbie, thanks for starting the thread!
Mummsy, good to see you again!

I am tired and it's only 11:45. I've been scrubbing the upstairs for two hours: walls, baseboards, bathroom. I'm not even done yet. I hope I can find the energy to finish and still get my work out in. I may put off my work out until tomorrow and clean some more and maybe walk for about 30 minutes. One thing about doing a thorough cleaning like this, it has made realize I want to simplify and get rid of things, so I don't have so much to move around!
I had a fun weekend but it wasn't the greatest for exercise and eating. I need to do better when I buy food this week and get more fruits and veggies.
    Happy Monday!

    Good Morning!

Wow MM, even baseboards?? I'm impressed and inspired! Do you wear a HRM while you clean? it can be really surprising how many calories it burns when you do it vigorously!

    My goals for the week:
    * Shop today for healthy food for the week and maybe pre-cook some dinners**
    * Burn 500+ calories on 4 of my workout days
    * Chop and prep all the veggies that I bought at the Farmer's Market

I'm learning a tough lesson about living with someone...I really let his food choices influence mine and I tend to have much less willpower because of the unhealthy stuff in the house. Luckily Chris really enjoys healthy food and I do most of the shopping and cooking, but...more often than not when he suggests a pizza night or margaritas on the front porch, I say yes. I need to get that back under control and to STOP feeling like I'm on vacation here in the new house! So that's a big goal for me.

Countdown boogaloo!!!!! I've got exactly 19 days until the Emmys!!!!

MM: My baseboards need to be cleaned SO desperately. I just can't seem to get down there, stay down there and do it. Good for you. I bet you are getting a fantastic workout with your cleaning today.

Wandering: I find it hard to stick to good choices when someone else comes up with a better one myself... ie... pizza on friday and Reeses pieces my mom bought for the "kids" I need to work on this one for sure.

Just weighed in. Down 4.8. Woot. Need 3 more down to hit 30. I can do it! ;)

    Hi Pebbs,

Just a quick check-in, as I'm enjoying the time offline. Who knew?

Just swam for the first time in I think about 10 years. I managed 20 minutes of laps in two ten minute sessions. Naptime now. I forgot how hard swimming is!

I'm enjoying having pretty much nothing to do and plenty of time to do it in. I'm looking over the conference sched. and picking a few things here and there. Then, I'm figuring how to relax more efficiently.

    Away, boogaloo.:flowerforyou:

Update: four hours of cleaning. I'm done. My house isn't, but I am. The baseboards were pretty dirty, and I got a few squats in when I cleaned the door frames as well. My pastor's wife told me to have one heavy cleaning day once a week, and the rest of the week maintain. She said I should be able to "deep clean" my whole house in 3-4 hours. :noway: I'm on my 7th hour and 2nd day. And I've only done about 3/4 of the things on the suggestion list. She also has four teenage daughters to help her.
WL,I wish I had a HRM to check cals burned. This site says 4 hours is 700 cals for light cleaning. Don't know if that's right, but I know I am exhausted, and I've been hungry all day! I have the same probably with other people's food suggestions. DH asked last night if I wanted to go get ice cream. Of course! I didn't need it but it tasted good. I should have said no. I would have impressed him.
Mummsy, great job on your weight loss!
V, nice of you to pop in! I'm glad you are enjoying your down time. Makes me want to go on a retreat.
I'm chatty today. I need to get off of here!

MM: good for you. Sounds like you have gotten a lot done. If I were ever home without my 5 year old I may get more than JUST the laundry done. I may even get it put away. I admire your hard work. Ice cream does sound good. It is so blasted hot in Mid Missouri!

I followed MM's lead and got both of my upstairs bathrooms cleaned while my 9 year old worked with his tutor. I even used the magic eraser on the baseboards. Woo hoo...... Now for the rest of the house.... maybe another time! ;)

Hi everybody! Mummsy, you're in mid-MO? I grew up in Columbia!
MM, I'm amazed at your cleaning! I am thinking I should start getting rid of stuff - maybe 5 things a day for a couple of weeks and see how far that gets me. I seriously have a 'stuff' problem!
V, swimming tires me out, too. Good for you, and enjoy your away time.

I really need to get back to healthier eating, and exercising. Several months of stress and minimal workouts are starting to catch up to me - my pants were tight this morning. We went kayaking yesterday, which was a little bit of a workout, but not at all strenuous. And then I was all set to go to the gym after work, but then I got stuck working late. So I thought, OK, I'll do a DVD - but then I got caught in a traffic jam because of an accident. And we're supposed to meet my MIL online at 8, so I just had time to eat dinner and that's about it. Sigh. I need to start getting more sleep so I'm not so worn out by the time the workday is over.

    Early to bed, boogaloo!

I grew up in St. Louis but transferred with my job to Jefferson City about a year and a half ago. SO, I am REALLY close to Columbia! How funny! I hope you got some rest. Yesterday evening and night sounds like one problem after another. Here's to looser pants! Have a great day! :)

    Good morning!
Good for you Mummsy on getting the bathrooms clean! Way to go!
CP, sorry you are still having a hard time. :frown: Hope things settle down for you soon. :flowerforyou:

Today is Alex's last tumbling class for a few weeks, so we will be going to that. Other than my daily cleaning chores (not the heavy cleaning like yesterday!), I am going to work out. I feel like I haven't worked out in days! The scale is still going up and I'm just not getting it. It doesn't make sense. I raised my cals to 1350 but I'm not sure if I'm going to count again. Maybe I should like once or twice a week just to get a check on how much I'm eating. It's hard focusing on fitness and not fatness. I will feel better after I get a work out in. I'm going to redo week 3 of the C25k, so today is day one.
My "alarm" (the cat) woke us up at like 5 something this morning and neither one of us went back to sleep so I am a little tired today. Hope I perk up soon!

Focusing on fitness not fatness boogaloo!

Whoa! I turn my back for a minute and you guys go off on a cleaning frenzy! My house could use a cleaning frenzy. I'm afraid the mood (or the shame) doesn't stike me very often. Getting rid of stuff sounds good, though. I don't like "stuff", but we have so much of it! WL: Can't wait to hear about the Emmys. How exciting! Who are you guys up against?

Had two cases in court this morning. Handled them quickly and now back home. Taking the boys to see Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. I've been looking forward this one all summer. I've seen more movies this summer with the boys and their friends than I have in the past ten years combined. It has been fun.

I need to actually start doing some of the things I have been talking about doing re: healthy eating, portion control, exercise, more water...:blushing:

    Start doing it, boogaloo!!

Bobbie: the urge to clean rarely strikes but the need to do so was ever present and the opportunity arose so I took it! My boys want to see that movie too. I am not a huge fan of sitting through kids movies. My parents usually do that! Hee hee. Glad your cases were handled quickly. Gotta love not sitting around in court all morning. That can be such a drag. I don't have an appearance until Thursday. :)

MM: I have been contemplating doing c25k again. I did it years ago and it was such a great program. It really got me running. I did it religiously.... I have a good 100 pounds to get off still and I am about 30 pounds higher than I was the last time I did it. I want to shed some more lbs before I start it up again but I am getting excited about it. Good luck with your work out today. Enjoy!

    Hi All!

I love a good cleaning frenzy! I'm inspired to get out my own Magic Eraser and go to town!

For the Emmys...we are up against Deadliest Catch, a History Channel show called "America: The Story of Us," a PBS show and another Discovery Channel show. Eeep!

I never got in a workout yesterday -- I'm with you, CP. Life just got in the way and I'm thinking going to bed earlier might be a way to solve it. I need to make it a priority and focus on making the workouts count instead of phoning it in. We did walk last night for 90 minutes so it wasn't a total loss but then that led to eating dinner at 10pm and well, that's not so smart either

Okay, that being said, I'm off to the gym shortly for a 500 calorie burn. I also need to start logging my foods more. Been slacking off on that too.

    Keep it clean, y'all!!!!

Hi everyone! So good to see everyone checking in!

Mummsy, I am really liking the C25k program. Did you finish the whole program? I'm just on week three. Week 4 looks intimidating. lol. I can tell a difference even in the tone of my arms by doing the program. I guess I am swinging my arms enough give my shoulders a work out.
I'm trying to decide if doing lower body strength training on the days I don't do C25k will hurt me or help me. I don't want to be too sore to run the next day. But skipping days altogether isn't helping me either. I am debating on walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes and doing abs for 30 minutes, OR doing lower body strength training for 45 minutes and abs for 30 minutes. Decisions, decisions! I wish I could do all three. But considering it's almost 2pm, I don't really have time to do all three.
I'd better finish up my computer time and get some kind of exercise.
    Wednesdays are busy boogaloo!

I did finish the c25k when I started it about 3 years ago and I stayed running for quite a while. I loved it. Then I gained a ton of weight back. When I was running I did walk on the days I didn't run. Then I started doing Body for Life and did lift on the days I didn't run. It worked out really well. With BFL, you rotate the number of days you do upper and lower. So the first week you would do upper, lower, upper and then the next lower, upper, lower, etc.... Even if you didn't do BFL, I think lifting on your non running days. I loved that. Good luck. You can do it. Don't let week 4 intimidate you. You can kick week 4 in the teeth! :)

    Good morning,

Thanks for the tips Mummsy.

I ended up doing lower body and abs yesterday. I'm a bit sore today. I have a lot to try to get done today. I hope I have the energy to do it all. Grocery shopping (gotta finish a list first. I just haven't had an appetite so nothing sounds good.), general cleaning, laundry, and walking/running. I also NEED to find some time to do some things with Alex. He's already said he wants to paint this morning. It's good to see him making decisions and hearing what he wants to do.
Steve just left for work and I noticed he looks different. He looks taller (but I know he hasn't grown   ) so he must be thinner. Not that he had much fat to lose anywhere. He's a pole anyway. But I think walking on the treadmill is making him look different. Wonder when I will notice. :grumble:
Can't think of anything else to say so I'd better get to work.
    Healthy foods=better moods boogaloo!

    Hi Pebbs,

Just checking in....managed to get a work out of some sort in every day this week so far, despite a crazy cukoo schedule here at jazz camp (I'm auditing, and running around doing stuff for my husband, who's playing for ensembles).

Also, I've developed a rule for the trip (probably a good rule in general) eat half of whatever's put in front of you. I've only broken it a couple of times. The food choices haven't been good. So far iceberg lettuce is the only vegetable I've seen (blergh). No wonder I got fat when I lived here. I hate to harp on like a foreigner, but I have really been trained to expect smaller portions of everything living outside the states.

    Running around crazy, boogaloo.:flowerforyou:

    Hi!

V, glad you could stop in! That's a good rule. I need to apply that more when I go to Mexican food restaurants. When we got to Red Robin we always split a meal. I wish places did serve half the meals, at half the cost (I know some places do for lunch etc), but I think we would be a smaller nation if they served less food. If most people are like me, they will eat as much as is put in front of them. When I was a kid, my dad would make us eat everything on our plate and if there was only a little bit of something left in a bowl, he'd make us eat that too. I know I am an adult and I am responsible for my own actions, but that has been a very hard thing to break over the years. I still don't have it down.

I was suppose to go out today but that was postponed till Monday, my heavy cleaning day. So I am trying to motivate myself to clean heavily today. I was up too late last night so I am tired today and don't want to do anything. Cleaning is my work out today but I think I will try to get on the treadmill for 30 minutes or so. I am not cleaning baseboards today so my cleaning won't be as much of a work out. You know, when you deep clean the house once a week, a week sure seems to go by fast.
We have a busy weekend and a busy week next week. It seems things all happen at once. We had weeks where nothing was happening and now we are moving in several directions.

    Feast or famine boogaloo!

It is good to be home.

MM - I was never good at the 1/2 a plate thing or sharing my entree. At nice chain restaurants, I usually order side dishes anyway. I get funny looks when I say I just want veggies, no sauce.
    V - hope you're having fun!
CP - hope your new job works out for you - and you get to work out with your new job
    Welcome back, Mumsy
Hope all is going well Bobbie.
WL - I was staying at the hotel next to the Staples center during my LA layover on Tuesday night. Wish I had know WW was nominated for an Emmy. I would have looked at the place differently. As it was, there was a fitness conference going on. I couldn't figure out at first why everyone was in workout clothes and buff.

I weigh the same as when I left, though I haven't checked the home scale yet, so that's good. I got exercise everyday, but very little yoga in. At the first hotel, I went to a yoga class, only to have it be mostly breath work :grumble: I did one session on my own on Wednesday morning - but that was it. Oh, except for a brief period on the train. So we are at a station stop. We are running early (oddly enough). After my mom and I get our walk in, we still have some time. I said I would like to do some yoga, but I felt self-conscious doing it on the train platform. My mom encouraged me to go ahead - so I did. Then had two people join me - how cool is that! So I taught a little class on the platform. The train attendant doing yoga with me wanted to sign up for my class and was disappointed I didn't teach in LA.
Oh, if you ever decide you must go on a train - the one between Seattle and LA is the best one I've ever been on. The staff, the amenities, and the view were great. You have to pay for a sleeper though, or it's just not as good.

Food in Seattle was good and cheap - an odd combo. I loved Pike Place Market. I saw a drug deal and plenty of seediness though. Vancouver was awesome as always - oh, and in case I was thinking about moving there - found out the average price of a single family home in Vancouver - 1 million - most people live in apartments, but still, wow. One of our credit cards was compromised, so that sucked - but we don't think it was by someone on our vacation, since we only used it three times.

Today - yoga for sure. I will try to get yoga in all weekend - hard teacher is teaching nearby. A walk as well. AT&T is coming to work on our land line - between 1-5 - never understood this, only knowing your schedule with 4 hour blocks. Ridiculous.

    Back home, boogaloo!

Glad you are back Mary! Looks like you had a good trip. I saw your pics on FB. Did you go to the Victorian Buchart gardens? I have wanted to go there since I was a little girl. We have a 3000 piece puzzle of it in our living room. How did your cats do while you were gone?

We got to sleep in this morning! Until 8! My cat alarm clock didn't even wake us up. Today is kind of busy. I need to work out this morning on the treadmill. Day 3 of week 3 of C25K. I may have to redo this week a third time because I don't know if my endurance is built up enough to run for five minutes on week 4. Sounds pathetic. lol. We are going to set up the church this afternoon, and then this evening we are having lunch with friends that we haven't seen in awhile.

I just found out that a person I used to know somewhat just had surgery, either lap band or gastro, and has lost 35 pounds in four weeks. When people have one of those surgeries it bothers me. Maybe it's not so bad, but it seems like they are cheating or maybe it's not the right fix for weight loss, like it's not good for their bodies. Maybe I shouldn't be talking since I don't know much about the surgeries. I think right now I am kind of jealous of anyone who has lost a pound because I've been working so hard and have only gained over the last six months. :ohwell: Sorry. Lost my fitness not fatness mentality. lol. I was talking to Steve about my weight last night. Not a surprise at all. I talk too much about it, but he does think something is going on in my body that would cause me not to be losing weight, like my thyroid. But he also seems to remember that when I lost weight before I was drinking a ton of water. He said he saw me with a 32 oz jug in my hand all the time. I am pulling the jug out again.

    Watering me boogaloo!

    HI Pebbs,

I'm officially cranky and homesick and road weary now. I had an interesting experience yesterday, as I checked into a hotel and then immediately checked right back out of it. Literally the skeeviest place I'd ever been in, and I will remind you ladies that I lived in Detroit for almost a year, and I'm not a tender flower. I got hassled in the parking lot by some possible residents of the hotel as soon as I got out of the car, in a very creepy "do you need help with your bags" little lady? sort of way. The room had literally not been cleaned, well, I'm guessing EVER. Nasty. So, that was fun. I managed to control my mini-panic attack in five minutes in the "room" before I went back to the lobby to say "credit my card. I'm not staying here." I used to drive across country from Orlando to Seattle and stay off the highway (so only stay in old-school roadside hotels or even sleep in my car) so I'm used to interesting accommodations, but this place was a pit.

I wish that I had signed up for this seminar/camp thingee instead of just being allowed to audit a few things. It's just depressing to watch other people take lessons from world class singers after the first day or two. (I thought it was a camp, like for kids...but there are professional caliber singers from as far away as South Africa, France and Japan....gah!) Kicking myself for not researching more before I left. Also, my husband has been working solidly from about 8 am to 10/11 pm, so he's cranky and I'm lonely. Ah well, I have read four trashy books, so that's something. I studied once. I think my brain needs the refreshment, frankly, so I'm letting it have it.

I've been doing OK with goals, eating half (this is really working out, I think, and the encouraging thing is I don't even have to try.) I didn't work out yesterday, so I have to get something in today. It may be yoga. From all the not-so-great food choices and not my own bed/routine, I'm getting muscle sore and cranky and I think yoga might help. Hey, couldn't hurt, right? Yesterday, I ordered a sandwich (with a huge bread roll) it came with a side of potatoes (carb) and corn (carb). It's a carb-stravaganza! I miss vegetables and my gym...the fitness equipment at these hotels is pretty bleak.

I would love to find someone randomly teaching a yoga class on the train platform!

    Doughy blues, boogaloo.:flowerforyou:

V - are you in Toledo? I'm sure I could find a class you would like. I don't think I've ever stayed in a place I thought was so dank I turned around and left. I did stay in a place without a telephone (before cell phones) or tv. I thought that was pretty cool.
MM - we did go to Buschart, but didn't have nearly enough time there. We stupidly went on a tour, but we were hungry so we got tea as well - we ended up only having about 45 min in the gardens. Bah! My FB picture is from 2004 when I went there with my husband. I tried to replicate the picture, but I needed to bring a hat for that to work out.

Didn't get yoga in yesterday. I blame AT&T. They were supposed to come by, but didn't - so I missed out on the hard yoga class for nothing. I slept in this morning, so I couldn't go to the lulumon get your asana outside class either. Hoping to go to a noon class today. I forgot I have to teach tomorrow, so no hard yoga this weekend. I will mark Thursday's class in my calendar. I need to work hard the next month to get ready for crazy lady workshop over labor day weekend.

Chances are I will walk today as well  The heat index yesterday was 106 - and today is more of the same, so biking is out for awhile. I got enough sun in Vancouver to last me. My dad even got a slight burn - who knew you could get sun burned in Canada

Back in the swing of things, boogaloo

    Howdy pebbles.

I just printed out my registration form for my next bike ride - yeah! October seems so far away, but I'm sure it will surprise me when it gets here. There's also a ride at the end of September that I plan on doing as well, as long as it cools off by then. I have a workshop every month from now until November and at least two bike rides - I think I'll be pretty busy! It would be funny if yoga workshops gave out t-shirts like the bike rides do: "I'll stand on my head for breast cancer" - or something like that.

I'm up early to teach yoga. I feel like I'm still on Pacific time, but I think I'm just staying up to late and getting used to the cats again. I've been coughing since I got home - of all the things to be allergic to :grumble:

Didn't get that walk in yesterday, will do so today.

    Go away cough, boogaloo

Hi, all. Trying to do better, but the weight keeps creeping up. Arrgh. Gotta keep trying.Stopped by Talbot's yesterday and found out they were having an additional 50% off of their already marked down clothes, etc. I also had a 15% off discount for my birthday month. It has been a while, but I got some nice things for next to nothing. It was fun!! Also got a manicure, pedicure and eyebrow wax yesterday. It was a good "me" day.

OK. Gonna keep trying on the good food choices and more exercise.

    Keep trying, boogaloo!

Mary, you should have a shirt made that says that! I bet you'd sell a lot of them.
Bobbie, your day sounded fun! I need/want a day like that.

It's a day off, though I should burn calories just from sweating so much. It's SO hot! I'm ready for September to get here. It's been over 100 everyday for two weeks or so and it looks to be staying that way for at least another week.
I have heard so many of my friends say they've lost so many pounds just by doing this or that, and it's getting frustrating for me. A friend told me last night that I need to focus on my health and not on the weight. He said I do look healthier now. I feel healthier for the most part. It's just discouraging when my clothes are still tight or tighter than a month ago. I don't get it.
I plan to drink a lot of water today. We are meeting with friends tonight to go to a different airport, and Alex might get to go up in a plane again, so he will be excited about that if he can go. Tomorrow my busy week starts. Doing something everyday, and inlaws coming in on Wednesday through possibly Friday. The goals for the week are to drink a lot of water and C25k, which will probably be week 3 again. I have been struggling to run 3 minutes at a time so I don't think 5 minutes is going to happen. lol. I'm pathetic. One of my other friends just ran 9 miles on Saturday. I might be able to run 1/4. :ohwell: I would also like to get some taebo in next week.
That's it for now. Off to practice my guitar!

MM: It is not PATHETIC to redo week 3. You know what your body can handle or not. Take your time and build up slowly. I am jealous of you for doing it. I want to run again and you are way ahead of me. You will be grateful that you took your time and I think your running will be better for it in the long run. Enjoy your challenge this week of week 3 even if it is for the 10th time! :) Adding more water is a great idea. I try to get in 2 to 3 liters a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It is always a challenge for me. I much prefer everything else! Hee hee.

I totally can't stay in skanky hotels either. ICK!

I weigh in today at 12:40. I have had a pretty good week. I had a good loss last week. I would really LOVE to have dropped 3 pounds to hit the 30 pound mark. A bit intimidating that I need to lose 110 more but I will get there. Slow and steady. I WILL get there. Have a great Monday all.
