Hi, I'm new to MFP [ I made one an hour ago] and I'm so depressed that I don't even know what to do. I am only 20 and I weigh 280 as of today. I have never been this large in my life and I can feel the weight causing more pain and things than I had before. Point is, I'm a college student and I really want to drop this weight and do something phenomenal and love my body [which I never have]. Problem is, I'm VERY poor and I can't afford weights, or a gym membership, but I want to work out and see some REAL results. I don't want to do some stupid crash diet, I want to find a regimen that works for me. So anyone that has had the struggle of starting a long-term weight loss journey [70 pounds or more] can you help me and tell me how you did it? I REALLY want this. I just don't want to do some little low impact workout just because I'm fat, I want to do something that makes me feel like I am TRULY trying to work out.

I understand about being broke. The best thing you can do for starters is to walk. Walking is free, you can do it anywhere and you can add intensity to it also. If you want weights, use what you have around the house. Cans are good starters. When you get groceries and get milk, keep them and fill them up with sand or water. Also on youtube there are good exercise videos you can do inside. You have the will and the want and that is half the battle. Sent you a friends request also.

You've taken the first and most important step...you started! Just take it one day at a time and you'll see amazing results. There are a lot of free videos on youtube. I started at 260.8 in December 2012 and am now 42 lbs. down. You can do this!

Walk walk walk! Also you can check out your local library for exercise videos to rent. I've also seen exercise videos on youtube you can look up. Our local video store also has a free section of videos you can rent and they have exercise videos there. Find a buddy and it'll help a lot!

    Welcome to MFP.

This is a community of folks with all sorts of fitness needs. You are not alone! If you click on community and then check out some of the groups, you will probably find exactly what you are looking for. Some people are super supportive and some not as much but if you are committed to a true change, you will find some champions on here.

As for not being able to afford equipment, the most common exercise on here is Walking...no equipment needed. Many people walk a little faster and farther each week. That's all it takes to start the fitness journey. Real results take time but walking every day will put you on the path.

There are no magic silver bullets here. Everyone has to work long and hard to take off weight that took years to put on. The success stories on here are some of the best reading you can do each week, particularly when weight loss stalls. You will also see that most posting are about weight loss that took a six months to two years.

Your daily intake is something you will have to try until you get to your own right level. Some folks use the roadmap which you can find by doing a search in the community. It focuses on TDEE-20% which will often work as a place for a deficit to create weight loss.

See your doctor if you haven't already.

Take your measurements as they will likely change quicker than the scale if you exercise.

If you post a friend request for 20+ year old folks, I bet you will get all the help you can use.

    GOOD LUCK ON THE JOURNEY!
