Did anyone else see this article about the Diet Pepsi skinny can?

Here's one of the ads for the skinny can, it's weird to me that this actually happened.

If I didn't want to be thinner, I wouldn't have to resort to diet beverages. I thought that was obvious.0

So instead of fixing the watery taste in Diet Pepsi they waste their money on this?0

This article is two years old, I guess Skinny Pepsi did not work out.0

Yes, it's a can. I was thrown off about how they were marketing it though..exactly because of the fact that it is simply just a can.. :Pit's a can! who cares?0 -
Pepsi has no idea what they're doing aparently..they've tried Pepsi Crystal & Pepsi Blue too & neither of those worked either. This article is two years old, I guess Skinny Pepsi did not work out.0 -

Obviously it is "just a can" but I think your question was about the can as a metaphor and the way that they were marketing it.
Two years later and it is evident that the skinny can flopped, unlike this marketing campaign:

Of all the things happening in the world, this is what garners the most attention? Whatever, I don't see the controversy but then I don't get offended at every little thing either.
Note: my comment isn't directed at the OP just at the idea that this is a "controversy".0 -

Pepsi has a new diet drink with extra caffeine. It kept me awake all night. Move over red bull.0

Some cans can't thigh gaps no matter how skinny they get! It's about bone structure.0 -
