able to do 15min on the treadmill, because my legs started itching & burning. Then I did Hip Hop Abs got 14min into it, and was out of breath, oh and I'm a 125 pounds overweight. This is going to be something else!

Out of breath means doing it right, it's notsupposed to be easy! Don't give up0

It gets better every day.. I'm not gonna lie and say easier, because the better you get, the harder you should push yourself... but then it becomes a drug and you need to be sweaty, and shaky, and out of breath.0
-
And next time you might be able to push for 16mins on the treadmill. No one could go from being sedentary to running a marathon. Don't give up, you'll start making progress before you know it.0
-
stick to it! add 1 minute each day but stay consistent. You won't regret it!0

Yep! Doing 15 minutes is better than sitting on the couch - and in a year when you're thinking back to when you could only do 15 minutes you'll be glad you stuck with it!0 -
Itching and burning as in they felt really warm or as in your muscles were extremely sore?0
-
I remember back in high school I couldn't even run for 8 minutes straight. Now I can run for 35+ mins at a continuous pace and I know that's nothing really to write home about but its progress. You gotta stay positive!0

It may take a while, but suddenly you will begin to notice a difference and it won't seem so discouraging any more.0
-
You're doing it right! I don't workout with a number of minutes or reps in mind, I go til I can't go any more and I've seen results:)0

Good luck, HotCocoa. It is really hard and I know what you mean about exercising. I did a lot of hiking this weekend and had hoped it would have helped the bottom line (so to speak), but I stepped on the scale this morning and I gained a pound.
The exercising and shortness of breath does get better. When I first start riding my bike in the spring I near die going around the block, but by summer's end I'm exhilarated taking a 10 mile ride.
Hang in there! You'll do great. :flowerforyou:0 -
Everything gets better with time! There were workouts where I had to take several breaks just to get through them. Now I don't take breaks on them and have to do them longer to get that same intensity. Aren't you curious about what you could become? Time and patience are the answer just don't give up. Don't give up...0

I hear you.. I was just talking about this! I really do not love working out.. wish I did - I used to and it was awesome. Persistence is key I guess  fake it 'till you make it lol0

It gets easier. I used to think wlking half a mile was a good walk.
Now the thought of walking a mile makes me laugh, because I do 2-4 regularly.0 -
Pace yourself and keep on plugging! Next month, you'll be able to do 30 minutes, then on to an hour. You CAN do this. It took you all these years to get out of shape, it will take you many years to get back into shape. Doing something, moving as much as you can, is better than sitting back thinking about it! Keep on plugging! You're going to feel so great.0

Keep at it. i only started running 4 weeks ago and could barely do 10 minutes!! I've doubled that already in a short space of time. You have to stick at it for it to get easier!0

15 minutes on treadmill and 14 min of Hip Hop Abs! That's almost a half hour workout! You did great! Try to do it at least 3 times a week. Then add a minute like suggested.
You have to start somewhere and you did -GREAT JOB! Just do not, DO NOT, give up. It will get better and feel better. Just keep going...you'll see :-)0 -
That sounds like a great workout! You don't go from 0 minutes of exercise to the full 45, starting at 15 to 20 minutes is great!0
-
100% true. I started at 10-15 min of running (which was more like run-stop-run-stop) and then worked the run-stop combo up to one hour & 5 miles in about 3 months.
My very fit, tennis-pro boyfriend can't even keep up.
Nice job! You're already kicking butt ahead of the curve!0 -
Its good to be out of breath, that means you are working hard enough. Once your heart rate peaks you can reduce intensity for 30-60 seconds to recover. Then, increase the intensity to push again!0
-
No no, you're looking at this all wrong. You're 125 pounds overweight yet you were able to do 15 minutes on the treadmill and 14 minutes of HHA! Good for you!! Better that than just sitting on the couch and getting fatter, right?!
Next time, instead of coming to a full stop after 14 minutes becuase you're out of breath, press pause, walk around the house a bit while you catch your breath, take a few sips of water then press play and continue, Even if you can only do another 5 minutes, that's 5 minutes more than you did last time! By the way, I still love doing HHA! It's so fun and I feel the effects even more now that I'm more fit and can push harder.
Keep working at it and, trust me on this, it will get easier. You can do this!0 -
Keep at it though!! Eventually it'll be like a walk in the park to you0
-
Don't give up - exercise will change how you feel about yourself- you will feel stronger and stronger- then watch out world!0

All of these friends are correct in saying that it will get better. I found, however, that if I can not breathe or hurt too badly, I stop doing that form of exercise because pain really is not a good thing. Having been close to 300# for a long period of time totally screwed up my knees, ankles and lower back, so overdoing any exercise cause much pain. I have found that water aerobics and laps really help because I will do them knowing that the pain is less severe for those exercises. If you have a chance, maybe you could try them, too. Whatever you decide to do, remember that baby steps will still get you to your goal, it will just take longer. Good Luck, Take Care of Yourself, and keep taking those small steps!0

i have to agree with the others it does get better and rather quick when i first started in feb. i was able to do 15 mins on my elliptical i slowly increased it to one hour on low resistance now i split it up in 2x 30 mins a day doing HIIT and burn double the amount then i did starting out going for 1 hour0

You CAN DO IT. You just cannot give up...you are doing better than sitting on the couch. I just repeat this to myself when I am hurting or wanting to quit during my walk. I hope I will be able to run one of these days. For now, I do my walking, I have added zumba back into my routine and I have done one kettle bell workout and will try to keep doing that and getting better at it. You just have to stick with it. It will get better, you will do more and you will lose weight and gain so much more.0

i can also remember when i was new to serrious exercise and it seemed like the kids that could just do it were on some other level then i was.
To the OP, believe it or not what you really need to over come is far more mental then physical. pretty much all exercise that produces results is also going to produce a significant amount of discomfort when you are acutally doing it.
It isn't so much that you get into better shape and the exercise becomes easier (although it certainly will), its more that you become comfortable being uncomfortable.0 -
I'm 150lbs+ overweight but am swimming, doing cardio and strength work (as well as making sure I eat a calorie deficit). For the cardio I'm doing C25K (couch to 5km) I finish week 3 tomorrow morning although its taken me 6 weeks to get there. Yes its hard and I'm puffing like a steam train by the end but it does get easier and seeing the weight come off and muscle tone start to appear through the fat its worth it. Its a long journey but exercise is a big part of it to be healthy as well as thin by the end. Pace yourself, if necessary walk rather than run and build up to a jog. Enjoy it because it does become addictive - in the space of 8 weeks I've gone from disliking getting out of breath to training 5 times a week. Good luck0
-
Keep at it you did great! Add 1 minute extra per week and keep building slowly. You can do this!0
-
Dude, you did 30 minutes of exercise today! That's amazing! I consider myself to be pretty fit and I can't do more than 15 mins on the treadmill either, mainly cause I just really hate the treadmill haha. Take it one day at a time. Tomorrow try hip hop abs again, maybe you'll get 15 minutes into it before stopping this time. Eventually you'll be able to do the whole video.
Great job on your progress so far, you can do this0 -
GOOD FOR YOU!!!! That's awesome that you're taking the first step and dedicated a half hour toward your progress, congrats!! Don't let your own over reaching expectations at the beginning of your new lifestyle be your downfall. It's very difficult to be realistic about where we actually are (most of us think that we are in better shape than we actually are at the beginning) and it's very difficult to be realistic about where we're going.
What do you have? A realistic base line. The great thing about this baseline is that now you can come up with a long term goal and reasonable incremental goals along the way. Next time go a minute longer, or look at your distance and go a 1/4 mile further, or look at the incline and play with that . . . you have so many great opportunities here!0
