Is it realistic?

I am determined to become a runner. When I do get to run it feels pretty good, the added bonus being ALONE TIME (I am a SAHM of 3 with two of them being under 3! Nuff said). I am literally just starting out again after giving up on the C25k last year due to the baby (at that point 9 months) screaming at my DP for the full 40 minutes or so that I was gone. Every. Single. Time. :grumble: It just wasn't worth it to see them both so miserable. DS1 is now a bit happier with being left with Dad for the little while that I am gone and for the most part I am scheduling my runs before he gets up or after he goes to bed.
Long story short I am hoping to give it another go  . And am starting out with my own little Run/Walk program similar to the C25K and using the iSmoothRun app as a motivator (love that app). BUT I need something to aim for, to work towards otherwise I tend to lose focus. I have been looking for an event to complete and came across the Sydney Harbour Bridge Run which is in September. It is 9km but I will have 22 weeks to train for it which will hopefully give me a little wiggle room. The downside is the cut off for time is 1:30... Is this too ambitious?
On Sunday morning I got out and did 3.2km in 31 minutes so about a 9:44 pace. If I can maintain that over 10km I will scrape in. But if I don't finish I know I will be devastated.
I am pretty sure that if I have a commitment like this I will absolutely give it my all though.

Good for you, getting back into it! It's challenging and you inspire me (have two toddlers myself! ). With your current stats and how much time you have to train, I say go for it!0

I'm sure you smash it out of the park, September is a whiles off and the body has a great capacity for change if you are determined.
That being said If you don't(and I doubt this will be the case) finish it in the time, the most important thing is you actually gave it a go "When one eye is fixed on the destination there is only one eye left to find the way"
I don't think you are being unrealistic at all and as long as you remain consistent 9km should be achievable.
Good luck and keep us posted
ps three months ago I couldn't run 200meters without considering calling 000, 2 weeks ago I ran 8km without stopping...and believe me I am no runner but the body adapts quickly Yay!0 -

Thank you for this! Exactly what I needed to hear. BTW I think that is amazing, unfortunately I don't progress that fast but I am hoping to be able to run the whole thing albeit slowly!
I just registered... :drinker:0
