Where to start, where to start

Hello All! I am looking for online support, motivation and advice. I have 120 pounds to lose and and looking for online support from people who share a similar goal. While losing weight is a goal for everyone here, I believe there is a difference between those wanting to lose 20 pounds and those needing to lose 120! I need to be able to relate to people who understand my struggles and the scary first step of losing that much weight! Right now it seems impossible to me. Even thinking about "baby steps" is discouraging to me right now. Start with a 5 pound goal and I think what difference does 5 pounds make when you have 120! I know, I have to start somewhere, but you see where my mindset is and the struggle I face. Any advice, support or successes shared would be greatly appreciated. -Linda-

Hello I am starting today myself....any goal seems hard to accomplish when you have a lot of different obstacles to over come. Mine is stress eating...and taking time to fix meals. I also "think" too much for instance when to workout or exercise. Today I just decided I am going now, and I did. The gym I was at had a quote on the board saying "Instead of setting out to build a wall, plan to lay a brick each day." well something along those lines. 120 lbs is a lot. so is 50lbs. which is my goal. But no matter what goal you do have to take those baby steps like 1-2 lbs or 5 lbs at a time. Let that be your focus, otherwise that wall is just way to big.... Eventually you will start feeling better even though your goal hasn't been accomplished yet and that will motivate you to keep going

Ha ha ha by the way I am Jacque and would love to hear how things are going from time to time or whenever you want. I am new to this site and haven't figured out how to navigate all of it yet. But I wish you all the luck and would listen anytime you need. :)

    Welcome to MFP!

This thread is super helpful: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/538381-in-place-of-a-road-map

Just start by logging in your food. This was an eyeopener for me. Some foods you are eating now are great .... others might suprise you. MFP is about learning and making lifestyle changes.

Lifestyle changes (as opposed to quick fix diets) are important because they give you the tools you will need to keep weight off.

Eat less, move more .... sounds easier than it really is.

    Good luck to you!

    Hello Linda and Jacque

Well I applaud you both for making the decision to get healthy!!
I am on my own journey to lose 66 lbs and so far I have lost 10. I have been logging my meals on MFP and believe it or not it helps!! As well as exercising, believe me it is hard to stay motivated, especially when you have been on a mission to lose weight many times and failed. But the difference this time is that I have reached my breaking point, I no longer want to go up in sizes nor look the way I do in photos. I want to be healthy for my children. I am eager to make a lifestyle change not simply just lose weight to reach my goal! My husband is also on the same bandwagon.

What helps me stay motivated aside from my family, is MFP, I have a picture of myself when I was lighter taped on my mirror along with an encouraging post it that says QUITTING is not an OPTION, I have an ultimate goal which is to lose 66lbs, but I have also set small goals like the first 10lbs, and reward yourself when you reach them. I bought myself a nice colorful workout outfit, I also saw a cute idea on pinterest that for every lb put a dollar in a jar.

Aside from striving to eat better (healthier, less fat , less fried and less sugar )and portion control. Read labels!!! It is truly an eye opener! Don't deprive yourself from something you really want, but the key is in moderation. I still have my occasional ice cream but much much less than before. And if you have a bad day, dust yourself off and get back on track. There will be many mess ups but it's OK don't be dis encouraged. Just don't quit keep working out keep striving remember what encouraged you to get healthy.

I try to workout no less than 5/week if I do more than great but no less! I take Zumba at the gym , the elliptical, walk the treadmill on high incline. It doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you GO!! Move as much as possible. On days I don't go to the gym I go for a walk with my daughters and my dog. or even blast music and dance with them. As long as you are moving around and not lounging around a 30 min workout is better than no workout.

Also read the success stories they are truly encouraging.
