I either have dry white wine (81 kcal/glass) or a Gin Tonic made with diet tonic (54 calories for a small glass).
Only problem is, well.. I can never have ONE glass of wine. That turns into another and another and then I'm hungry and with no calories left. So the best thing to do is just make room for alcohol certain days and avoid completely on others.
  • does it have to be diet soda?

    there are smarter choices.

1 glass a day should be fine.

You got it! Plan accordingly & also try to make sure that if you do get hungry you eat healthy not the grease you feel like you "must have" while drinking. I would have frozen meals for my latte night home from the bar meal. That way I didn't stop at some fast food joint or eat at the gas station... HA gross...

Like someone else said, I always have vodka/soda with lime. I am not a fan of sweet drinks. If I am at home I drink vodka with diet tonic. If you have self control and can stop at one or two then drink what you want. If I have a glass of wine with friends, it can turn into 3 or 4 so I'd rather stick with low-calorie options.

Well if you use regular soda/tonic, the amount of calories will be twice or three times that. You can google it, and find all the amounts online.

It's hard to say - partly depends on how you define "low calorie".

While calories in different alcohols differ by brand and alcohol content, typical calorie counts in alcoholic beverages are as follows:

    Wine - 6oz (red or white) 120 - 140 calories
Beer (regular) anywhere from 130 - 400 calories, with lagers being closer to 130
    Light beer - 80 -100 calories
Hard liquor (per ounce) - 65-90 calories, mainly based on alcohol content.

Mixed drinks vary widely depending on the recipe, what mixers are used, etc. For example, a 2-ounce scotch and soda is about 140 calories, while a 4 ounce Manhattan is more like 230 calories.

If you are replying to the vodka/soda response. They mean club soda, not coke soda. But of course diet coke will be better than regular.

In the warmer weather I enjoy gin and soda with a couple of twists of lemon.

But, I'm a sucker for red wine - and it's never less than 2 glasses sadly.

Yeah, I know my food urges will be bad after alcohol, even if it's not a lot. So I usually get some low cal snacks from Boots (I'm in the UK), have a couple of eggs or some vegetables with chive dip.
Still, it's smart to make sure there is extra calorie room after having that first drink, even if the alcohol will go faster to your head. Even if I eat healthily, it adds up when drunk eating low kcal food.

The MFP app has a scanner on it for scanning in your drinks(if they have a barcode) which is great for things like wine that don't list the cal. But i just plan in my cal for the drink. I don't like the watery tasting low cal beers(heck even Bud light is gross, give me Guiness anyday!) and i'd rather have a nice glass of red (which has more cal per serving than white). Just don't go overboard!

    correlation is not causation but...

moderate drinkers have been shown to live longer than their alcohol and nondrinking counterparts.

There should be a little button right next to the search bar after you choose "add food"

I go for brut champagne, 20 cals an oz and most champagne flute hold 4oz, so drink 2 of those and your only at 160 cals! Drink a whole bottle (not recommended) and your looking at 1000 cals and a hangover :)
