I applied to a college in Hawaii and I was accepted. Instead, I went to Ohio. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!
In all honesty, I applied there because there was a Marine Biology program and there were pictures of people swimming with turtles and I thought it would be cool to swim with turtles for a career. Now I realize that the major would probably be more classroom work and less swimming with turtles.0 -

I went back to visit a couple years ago. I bought the little shop by my hotel out of manapua 3 mornings in a row.
Interesting thing of note, if you're in NYC there's an L&L's downtown by the south street seaport. I have yet to go in there and not drop more than $50 on lunch lol.
(yes I know...going to Hawaii shouldn't just be about food for me...too bad, that's what I miss!)
When I go back home, it's all about the okazu, Zippy's, Yummy's plate lunches, and Hawaiian food. My family and the beach come after! I don't think I could ever move back, though, after paying mainland prices for everything for the past 12 years.0 -

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I work in finance and there aren't any exchanges on Oahu (yet) =P.

I can make most of my Hawaii foods here in Colorado. Gandule rice, pasteles, andagi, malasadas, pork hash, manapua, lumpia, manapua truck fried noodles, kimchee, kalua pig, haupia, etc., my family taught me how to cook these growing up. Since I don't have the ingredients for lau lau, I buy it frozen or go to L&L's and pick up a plate. For poke, I have to make do with frozen ahi. I have yet to be able to replicate Zippy's spaghetti and garlic bread, okazuya style chow fun, Rada's piroski (chicken cheese mushroom), or Yummy's potato salad. Once I crack these recipes, my life will be complete!0
