I netted slightly under maintenance and gained???

Hi everyone,

I've been doing TDEE for a couple weeks now and with the exceptions of a few small gains I have seen some good loss, except for today. I've been eating at about TDEE-20%, which is about 1500. Yesterday I netted about 100 calories less than my maintenance because I really wanted to see if I would maintain. Well my experiment failed because I gained almost a pound. I'm meticulous about entering my food too so I know exactly how many calories I ate. I know it's not great to weigh everyday but since I planned on doing maintenance yesterday I wanted to see the results. Is that normal to gain after eating maintenance for the first time?

Weight fluctuates on a daily basis, and no, 100 calories over maintenence is not going to make you gain fat.

It is probably just water weight, caused by any number of reasons. Sodium intake, carb/glycogen replenishment, hormones, dehydration, muscle repair, weight of the food in your stomach.........

you know the answer - don't weigh every day if it's going to make you obsessive about fluctuations..

    What the wha?

If you weigh yourself every damn day you MUST know that weight fluctuates all the time, from one end of the day to the other, for a multitude of reasons, and one day does not maintenance make....

I'll echo pretty much everyone else here.

I weigh every day, but only because I'm into data-porn: I want the most number of data points to work with (I like to be able to see whatever trends might happen, ie: High sodium Monday, then leads to a slight gain Tuesday and Wednesday, etc etc).

Weighing yourself everyday, the day to day numbers are to be taken with a grain of salt. It's the trend line you are concerned about.
