NIGHT exercising

I tried telling my friend that it is not good to exercise at night time because then you are not active afterwards.

so IS IT GOOD TO EXERCISE AT NIGHT?

she says constantly that the only way she can exercise if her children are asleep and that is well way after 8pm close to 9pm

...why would it not be good to exercise at night? Morning, day, night. get it in where it fits.

I regularly exercise at night and always have. Why would the "not active afterwards" matter in the slightest?

It really doesn't matter as long as you exercise sometime during the day. There is some science around when you should eat during your exercise routine but it's getting down to the nitty-gritty things that only matter if you are trying to get a really low body fat. I have a hypothesis that it is actually better to exercise right before you go to bed as long as you don't eat anything after you workout based on two facts we know about the human body. First we know that the human body produces HGH proteins after exercise and we also produce HGH proteins in our sleep. HGH proteins burn fat and repairs muscles. If we combine those two right after another, I am guessing that the effect will be more efficient than spreading out the two activities. Eating carbs can inhibit HGH proteins due to the rise in insulin so exercising and going straight to bed might be the best thing to do for your body.

Anyway, this is all conjure. DWTFYWD

I exercise in the evenings. I have had great results. I think the point is to be active...I don't know that the time matters too much.

If you're a high-level professional athlete looking to get that last possible edge in your training, it may (keyword, there) behoove you to pay closer attention to circadian rhythms to time your exercise for maximum benefit.

For everyone else, I've yet to see any compelling research indicating it makes a lick of difference. Exercise when you can, based on your schedule. If that means getting up at 5am works for you, great. If that means waiting to exercise until 9pm or later, great.
  • I usually work out at 8pm, then go to sleep within an hour of getting home, really doesn't make any difference at all

I don't only because I get too pumped up and it takes me a few hours to calm down so I can sleep. There is nothing wrong with it if it doesn't hurt your schedule.

Why are you nitpicking? Let the girl exercise when she can and don't discourage her.

I leave for the gym after my fiancé gets home from work so I typically don't arrive at the gym until 8pm. We have a 2.5 year old and my fiancé also enjoys going to the gym so it is the only time I am able to go. I am very happy with my progress and my workouts are most definitely effective.

It's fine to exercise at night.

I find that is when I have most energy. Plus, I don't like to eat supper and then let it sit in my belly like a brick all night. I do two hours of walking after supper (5 - 6 and 9 - 10) and I feel great. It also makes me tired for bed.

I generally don't head to the gym until after my boys are asleep which is around 8pm. My workouts typically last from 8pm to 10pm and I would consider myself in relatively decent shape. I really don't see the negative in working out at night other then sometimes it is hard to get to sleep at a decent hour.

At night is really the only time I can get a workout in too, with having 3 little ones to take care of all day long :) I don't have a problem working out & showering then going to bed. It doesn't keep me awake for hours afterwards.

The only reason I don't like to exercise too late at night is I get wound up and can't go to sleep. But if that's the only time I can fit it in, that's when I do it.
