Is snacking in the evening (after dinner) bad for you?

for me its not that i see it as BAD i just see it as a bad habit to get into (its my weakness, after long days at work and school, and i snack on bad things)

I don't snack after dinner not because it's BAD, but because for me all the snacking I would do at that time is going to be things that ARE bad for me. I'd go flying over my daily alotted intake and it wouldn't be pretty.

Not if you stay within your plan and you are losing.

I snack every night. Sometimes a tub of 80 greek yogurt or fruit or a spoon of peanut butter or a serving of walnuts (make sure it is measured, not sit in front of the tv with a 3lb can of cashews). I always make sure I have some calories left in my day to work this stuff in. Someone told me (on this site) that the "snacking too late in the day is bad for you"--is a myth. I haven't confirmed it but I'm seeing that it must be the case.

Typically yes (for me at least) because late night snacking almost always turns into some type of unplanned binge. Whenever I am having a really sweet craving at night, I will take 2 tablespoons of fat free cool whip with some berries and cinnamon on top. Or sometimes I'll snack on frozen grapes. Other times I will just drink some crystal light or some tea.

Thanks for asking this. I am always so good in the mornings/afternoons but as soon as the light starts to fade outside I feel like my stomach craves everything it knows it's not supposed to eat. ;-) Happy to know I am not the only one who has issues with this.

I snack like a beast at night...and continue to lose! You have to plan your whole day about your weakest point...and mine is nighttime snacking. I know that, at the end of the day, I always snack. So I make sure to allot calories for it. I also only stock my pantry with low calorie, health-conscious snacks. Mainly fiber cereals, single-serve bags of popcorn, fresh veggies, fruits, and nuts. I measure everything in the kitchen and put it in a bowl and bring it to wherever I am to eat it. Usually I'm too tired/lazy to go back for more or my craving is satisfied. :) Hope this helps!!

Ditto for me. I'm still working on not snacking after dinner. I am careful what I snack on and I drink a lot of water.

I plan my day in the morning and thoroughly enjoy my evening snacks. Tonight is a glass of Albarino, an ounce of Manchego, a lemon sugar cookie and a skinny cow ice cream bar. Nommmmmsssss

Meal frequency has no bearing on weight loss... Eat whenever you want just make sure you are getting your calories in.... I go to bed every night with a bedtime snack and it hasn't hurt my progress..... Best of Luck

I rarely have the calories to do so ., or are genuinely hungry after a days food! Go bed early! Can't snack asleep:laugh:
  • as long as you are within your goals, when you eat is irrelevant other than personal preference.
