Hi everyone,

I am currently doing the insanity workout and was pushing myself hard. I reached day 8 and during the intense push up drills pulled my left lower ab muscle. I finished the workout and day9 was pure cardio so completed that without much issue til the last 5 mins when i substituted a couple of exercises to replace push ups.

so a way forward..... do I?

1) keep going and substitute certain exercises
2) rest a week and start the same day next week and continue workout on track
3) rest til recovered and completely restart insanity?

Insanity is a very structured and intense workout so thinking a break will undo any potential results.

thanks for your time in reading / answering.

dont work through pain... if it doesnt hurt you're probably fine, but, theres no absolutes... if it hurts and you work thru it you could do some serious damage... also, the notion that taking a break will negate your progress is just silly..

thank you for replying. I only questioned the progress as insanity is a 60 day intensive program. So I was worried a weeks break; setting me back, meaning i'd be behind where I would have been; would therefore effect results and seeing only on day 10 whether restarting might be appropriate.
  • I'd agree with the above, don't push an injured muscle, it will only make things worse.

I managed to throw my back doing stance jacks half way through the pure cardio session. I pushed through the rest of the session, probably just because the muscles were warm, but it was painful... Only thing for it was to just completely stop insanity for a week and restarted that week once it was healed. I do feel as though that week undid a lot of the progress I was seeing, but its quickly recovered.

    Stay safe!!

    Thanks Chris,

much appreciated. Ive decided to stop as I couldn't give it my all and would have hurt myself further i'm sure. I guess you are right and I am early enough in the program to push back into it.
