6 weeks off training...heeeelllppp

Hi all, im after a bit of advice! I'm reasonably fit and toned (half way through insanity for the second time), however i have to take 6 weeks off high intensity exercise (no running/jogging/upper body work), therefore i was wondering wondering how much of my fitness im likely to lose?

I hope to walk daily, go on exercise bike etc (lower body work) and keep to my healthy diet, however is this still enough to keep some of my muscle tone?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Should be okay for that window of time. If you are really concerned, maybe try to work in a few sets of some body weight exercises (push ups, dips, etc.) to supplement.

It still shouldn't be too big of a deal for just the 6 week window. Good luck with it!

Even if you get a little less fit (for lack of a better word)...it will not be much and your body will jump right back in once you get moving again (muscle memory is a powerful thing). Don't worry.

i am in the same boat as you..i recently broke my wrist badly...for the first 6 weeks I could do nothing upper body at all & was very limited otherwise because any movement hurt my wrist-- now I am starting to work the one good side and I can tell I have lost a lot of muscle, my injured side is even weaker because I have hardly used it at all in the last 8 weeks. I still can't lift on injured side and any body weight exercises are not going to happen for 2 or 3 more months if I am lucky. Where i was using 20 pound weights I am now struggling at 10 pounds..I have alot of ground to make up. Hopefully if you can get back into it right at 6 weeks it won't be so bad. Good Luck..I know how crappy it is!

Do what you can. Your body will bounce back quickly when you return to your routine. I'm assuming you are injured? Can you get in a pool and do some laps using a kick board?

That's great! Thanks for all the advice! Yes I think I can swim after about 3 weeks but not heavy on upper body! Hopefully he won't take to long to get back into it once fit :-).
