Ok - I'll have a crack at this:

    Zombies with a Twist:
    - Charlie Brooker's 'Dead Set' (Zombie apocalypse leaves the contestants of Big Brother stranded and being picked off)
    - In the Flesh (post zombie apocalypse - a new drugs allows zombies to be rehabilitated back into society)

    The ones they shouldn't have cancelled}
    - The Lost Room
    - Jericho
    - Carnivale

    The subtitled ones:
    - The Killing (Danish)
    - The Bridge (Swedish)
    - Spiral (French)

The British ones that the Americans really shouldn't have tried to copy:
    - The Office
    - Being Human
    - Shameless
    - House of Cards

Yeah us Brits are funny. Fact.:
    - Twenty Twelve (Mockumentary about the Olympic Deliverance Commission)
    - Peep Show
    - Extras (from Ricky Gervais of The Office)
    - The IT Crowd
    - Spaced
    - The Thick of It (Mockumentary about politics)
    - Black Books
    - Father Ted
    - The Inbetweeners
    - The Royale Family
    - I'm Alan Partridge
    - Phoenix Nights

Did I mention we're also good at the sci-fi/supernatural stuff?
    - Life on Mars
    - Misfits
    - Merlin
    - Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror
    - Dr Who
    - Sherlock (the Benedict Cumberbatch version)
    - The Fades
    - Survivors

    Checking out Dead Set

    Loved Merlin

I have a few to add.
    Sliders
    Stargate Universe (SG-U)
    Primeval (UK)

I have to second those who have said Being Human. Both the UK and American versions are quite interesting and humorous at times.

Oh, and I forgot FlashForward, loosely based on the Robert. J. Sawyer novel of the same name.
That one was actually on ABC, so you've likely already seen it.

    The Office (UK) and Extras.
If you don't like Ricky Gervais though I'd recommend Merlin, Sherlock and Downton Abbey.
You've probably already seen Doctor Who, but I have to mentoin that too.

I'm British and can't stand any of them.

I watch American crime, sci-fi, medical.

How's about Person of Interest, Battlestar or Covert Affairs?

I like a lot that were already mentioned... but one that I haven't seen yet is Ugly Betty. This one pleasantly surprised me!

I'd rather do something productive instead of wasting life away watching series.. Unless it were something inspirational or educational

says someone who's hanging out in the "chit chat fun and games" section...

She's just sour because I gave her what for in another post.

I'm a guy? lol, and I've never had contact with you before, don't get clever :)
