i need recipes!
after hearing/reading about all of the health benefits of flaxseed (omega-3, fiber, even a little protein, oh my!) i finally broke down and bought some. but...now i need recipes! i saw a recipe on this board earlier for flax pancakes with honey fried bananas, sounds yummy! throw some more ideas at me, i have a big ol' bag of bob's red mill natural raw whole flaxseed burning a hole in my cupboard!
also, what are your recommendations for grinding flaxseed? coffee grinder? mortar and pestle? placing it in the path of a unicorn conga line?
many thanks!

I LOVE flaxseed meal. I grind mine in the coffee grinder it's quick and effective (although if I'm feeling lazy I buy it pre-ground) be aware it goes up in volume when you grind it (by a lot) so only use a little at a time.
Flaxseed can go in pretty much anything. In baking you can replace one egg with one tablespoon flaxseed mixed with three tablespoons water. This is best in stuff that's supposed to taste "healthy" and no something like a really delicate cake. I make my oat bran muffins with flax instead of eggs.
You can add two tablespoons to shakes, oatmeal...anything really for a little extra boost.0 -
I pulse it for like 30seconds In The blender. Whole seed is so much cheaper than ground... Though if you can find unicorn conga line.. not a bad idea... I throw teaspoon in my yogurt and sprinkle it on anyyhing0

Coffee grinder works really well for me, but unicorn conga line sounds much more entertaining! Sigh....didn't realize how boring my life had become.0

I used to get whole flax seed and grind them in a coffee grinder. I'd put a Tablespoon on/in my morning cereal.
Now I buy flax oil, less fuss and more versatile. One teaspoon oil = one Tablespoon ground seeds.0 -
I get the whole seed cheap online..grind it until really fine in my little walmart coffee grinder.
I make this weird 'bread' with it.
ground flaxseed, with baking powder, milk/water, seasonings, salt and one egg...flatten it out on a cookie sheet until thin and bake until golden brown....its quite versatile....i make it sweet sometimes..or savory...goes with anything really...0 -
I substitute a third of the whole wheat flour with ground flaxseed, when I make fruit crisp for my family.
I buy pre-ground. I've got to much going on to deal with grinding, although, I do grind my own whole wheat flour.0 -
You can add it to just about anything. I usually add it to my morning breakfast shakes when I use those. adding to oatmeal is super yummy. And this is one of my most favorite cookie recipes ever: http://www.grouprecipes.com/21288/flaxseed-oatmeal-cookies.html0
