HOW do I lose weight?

Hi, so I'm 5"8 and I weigh 135lbs. I've gained a lot recently - I used to weigh 116 but that was when I wasn't really eating more than 700 calories a day and I had severe depression and anxiety. SInce then I've been eating a lot more, or not eating until the evening and then just binging on whatever. Sometimes purging - I know it's really bad and that's why I want to lose weight the healthy way and stop this vicious cycle! The thing is, I study ALL the time. I get home from college and I work until I go to bed, then get up and repeat. It sounds like a stupid excuse but my life is just consumed with work and I can't really exercise that well. So what do I eat to lose weight? Is it possible to eat 3 meals a day and lose weight? Any help would be appreciated, I just want to be happy and healthy! Thank youu :)

You're at a normal, healthy weight for your size already. If you really want to lose weight and be healthy, perhaps you should eat more fruits and veggies and get more protein. Do you live on campus? The walking you do around your college counts for something. I eat 3 meals a day plus snacks through out the day, and I've been losing weight pretty well. My big goal is to get down to 135, and I'm 5'5.

I'm 5'7 and my ideal weight is around 125-140

I think you're at a pretty healthy weight, for your height, but if you want to lose more, the simple thing is just eat healthy.
    Don't eat too little
    And don't eat too much.
    And exercise
    And eat back those calories.

There's no secrets and you don't have to torture yourself with such little calories counts
    :)

According to this site: http://www.healthstatus.com/cgi-bin/calc/calculator.cgi , your ideal healthy weight is 147 lbs. Your ideal range is between 131 and 164. You don't need to lose weight. Am I correct that according to your profile, you want to weigh 110 lbs.? That is a very unhealthy weight for someone your height.

Seriously. If you want to tone up, then fine - exercise and/or lift weights. But trying to be that thin will damage your health.

Yes my ultimate goal is 110 but it's really hard for me to get down that low! Hopefully one day I will be able to do it. I have friends who weigh less than 110 and I just want to feel attractive when I'm around other people. I'm trying not to go over 1100 each day but I don't know if that will help or make things harder?

You sound like you're a perfect weight for your height. I used to purge but would NEVER do it now because I realised how destructive it was and I made a promise to myself 6 years ago to never do it again. I'd suggest that if you want to feel better about your body just eat healthily and do some exercise you enjoy. Stay off the scales to help you focus on how you feel, rather than the numbers. It might not be what you want to hear, but if you could only maintain a weight you were happy with by eating 700 cals a day (starving yourself) then maybe that's a weight you are just not meant to be. You sound very dedicated to your studies and I know from experience what it's like to want to be 'perfect' in every area, but remember that what you weigh is less important than who you are. Try and be healthy but don't get too hung up on it.

Well done for stopping! I think I have a really bad circle of friends cause a lot of them have eating disorders so I'm always the 'fat' one even if I'm normal in the real world. I just want to be healthy so I can continue to work hard academically without my concentration going downhill! Thank you xx

Um, your goal weight would put you in the underweight catagory. That's not healthy. Please get help.

If you get to 110 lbs. at your height, you will be UNattractive. Stop focusing on a stupid number, and focus on your health.

You do not need to lose weight. That is a healthy weight for your height.

I am 5'8'' as well, but if I was to get below 145lbs, let alone the weight you are now, I'm pretty sure I would look like an anorexic patient. Why do you want to weigh 110 lbs? If you have friends who weigh less than that, are they your height or shorter? I think even if you had a very small frame, that weight would still be too low. If you were shorter, I don't see that being a problem, but don't try to get a body that isn't right for your height/frame. Work with what you got!

I would just suggest toning up/build muscle to get a tighter figure. Don't obsess over being a number.

You are at a great weight now. I agree with several of the previous posters in that 110 would be way too thin. Very unhealthy. I'm sure you look beautiful at 135!

This. You don't need to lose weight - you need medical intervention.

Please consider getting some counseling. Someone your height should not weigh 110. That would be so unhealthy...and unattractive...and probably uncomfortable too. It doesn't matter how much your friends weigh. (Remember the old line..if they all jumped off a cliff.....) (besides...I bet they're either lying,..or unhealthy too) You need a little dose of reality here. You seem like a really nice girl...please take better care of your body. Its the only one you get!

You are at a healthy weight. I am only 5'4 and I weigh 135lbs, perfectly happy with that number.
MFP is not really going to be beneficial for you I don't think... I think you should see a doctor who will point you in the right direction.

It's hard to see yourself as others see you, so sometimes it's helpful to look at other women your height and weight. They are beautiful, aren't they? Think about fitness, rather than thinness. Start lifting, you won't get bulky.

I'm also in college.....4 foot 11 inches...and I have never been 110 pounds since I was a child. I'm not super skinny....but I'm definitely not overweight at 126 pounds. With you being a whole foot taller than me...and 16 pounds less...I don't know how you're surviving.

You know what's beautiful? LIFE. Not death.

Is that you in the pics on your profile? I have a few ideas for you on how you can genuinely better your body and get a really nice physique, if you are interested. But it requires exercise and eating a lot more than you want to... but I think you'd be happier with your results. It's not about being skinny, it's about being fit. That is, if you want to get healthy the right way.
