Measures and scales .. When to ?

This may sound like an odd question but ... I can measure vegetables before cooking and they obviously measure a lot more bulk than when cooked ... Do I use the fresh or cooked measurement ... Same thing with fish and meat .... The weight scale says one thing pre cooked than cooked .. Which weight do I use when tracking my food ??

    measure it raw....
    After cooking many foods will lose water content(weight) depending on how long and the intensity of the cooking

    No measure after cooked. When you cook meat it loses natural juices, blood, water and fat. If you use the pre-cooked weight you will be massively over estimating your calories and all your nutrition intake.

    Don't forget a lot of supermarkets inject meat with water to make them heavier so we pay more for it.

    For example I bought a 230g steak the other day, I like it cooked black. When I had finished cooking it, it had halved in weight. If I had used the pre-cooked weight I would have over-estimated the calories by 105 calories and the protein by 20g

    who says it loses fat?

    according to what? where does the energy go? does it drop down? is it broiled or fried? is it sitting in its own fat? dont you think rice gains weight after absorbing water? and how much water does it absorb? do you actually know how much it does?
    where does the blood go? I dont see blood spilling out, I see it drying up.

    they inject it with water? LOL

    Not where I buy my stuff.

    I microwave rather than boil rice and it reduces in weight. All depends on how you cook your food, the length of cooking and the temperature you cook at. If you cook it in an unhealthy way i.e fry / let it sit in its own fat / roast, the weight reduction will be less.

    articles are old and even with beef only 16%? Which stores? Obviously you need to stop buying from low end POS stores
    I have never prepared steak and see water spill out as I am cutting into into pockets.

    I measure raw unless it says cooked weight on the package label. Certain food items are labeled as "cooked" instead of raw (bacon is one).

    You have just defeated you're own argument - that's precisely why you should weigh and input the cooked weight and not the raw weight!

    I just had 100g of raw mushrooms. Cooked them and the cooked weight was 50g
