DASH Diet

I am on Phase One of the DASH Diet. I was hoping that others out there are following this plan and we could start a support group. Please let me know.

My wife and I are following it as well. I would join a DASH support group and encourage her to do the same. Good luck!

What is the DASH Diet? I haven't heard of it but would be interested to know what it is.

    Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension.

Not really something you need to worry about unless you have high blood pressure.

The above post is correct, hypertensive folks should look toward the DASH eating plan for lowering their blood pressure. HOWEVER, I suggest you take a closer look if you’re interested… whatever your blood pressure.
According to a diet review by US News, the plan makes sooo much sense for soooo many people. It ranked high (or the top) in the following categories:
    • Most Nutritious (the experts call it the “Gold Standard” of what we *are supposed* to eat).
    • Safe
    • Top Choice for preventing or controlling diabetes
    • Heart Healthy
Like the article at WebMD states, the diet was developed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and it is available FREE online. How great is that!?
If you look at the USDA recommendations on sodium, we should be getting 1,500 to 2,300 mg of it per day depending on what category we fit in. Red flashing alarms, warning flags and the Coast Guard should be responding here…. we eat too much sodium.
The DASH plan is really about being aware of what you are putting in your mouth… reading labels… and taking the acquired habit/taste for salty things down to a healthy level.
Do your research and take a serious look. It’s smart, healthy eating…

We make sure the foods we are logging have the correct nutrition info (especially sodium) and track them and our running totals under "Daily" tab on the home screen of our phone app. Does this help?
