morning workouts

How many people here get up earlier than normal to workout? How was it starting out? Do you enjoy it better than night workouts? I want to workout in the mornings because I know it will give me energy for the day but I enjoy my sleep and because of that reason, I workout at nights. I heard somewhere that it is better and helps you loose more weight working out in the morning on an empty stomach.

I get up earlier and go before work. I have to have my bag all packed the night before and my gym clothes laid out or I make excuses.
This has worked well for me over the last 6 weeks because if I leave it till after work I have all day to talk myself out of going.

I feel better for the day also. I get up an hour and a half earlier than I otherwise would.

I would say that as long as you're getting a workout in, then more power to ya. As long as the workout doesn't keep you up at night, I don't see why you couldn't work out at night. I work out at all times of the day, and I prefer to work out before I go to sleep. It helps me sleep better (I work midnights, so technically I work out in the morning). And, I feel that for me, it is better to eat a little something at least half an hour, if not an hour before working out. Otherwise, I feel nauseous. But, you got to do what works for you.

If I had to work out in the mornings and only in the mornings before work I would NEVER work out. I love sleep. I love it so much I give myself 30 minutes to get ready in the morning before leaving for work. However, I have no problem leaving work and stopping by the park on the way home to run (obviously I have a slight problem with doing that now as I'm in a cast but that's beside the point). If it's not a run day I go home and start Insanity before I even give myself the chance to sit down.

Just do what works for you. If that means morning workouts then go for it, lunch time workout - why not? Working out in the evening - nothing wrong with that either. Just find the time and do it.

More power to you and anyone else that works out before work WTG. If I had to workout before work guess what it wouldn't happen lol I love sleep and i'm stonger at night. I use all the tension from the day for fuel at night. But so long as you're getting a GOOD WORKOUT is whats important. keep it going and stay on the path

Yeah, these last two posters are like 99% of the population. I don't mean that in an offensive way. But, my gym is so crowed at 6pm to about 8:30pm, that it's a freaking zoo. Good luck getting a squat rack. So, part of my deal is that the gym is wide open in the mornings. I HATE crowds, and I don't want to wait for anything. It screws up my momentum. I've gone at 9pm, and hats very pleasant, like the mornings. That's always an alternative. Come home, have dinner, relax a bit, then go.

My gym is 24/7/365 i'm that guy in there at 10pm when the after work crowd is starting to leave. I just like that extra energy I tried daytimes workouts it just not for me. but every now and then I work in in the daytime when I know i'll be partying at night

i'm a night person all the way, but i still get up to my alarm at 4:15am 3 days a week to make my boot camp 20 minutes away. honestly i thought i would hate it, and at first i did, but it really grew on me. now it's just a habit i maintain. for me getting it done early keeps me in check. on the days when i don't have boot camp i find it difficult to be motivated enough to work out later in the day. my only problem is that i never get enough sleep before i go, so some mornings i'm too worn out to push hard for as good of a workout as it could be. that's a personal problem though - i should go to bed at a normal hour ;P

I work out before work and just make sure that I go to bed at a time where I will get a good 7-8 hours of sleep. Before work for me also happens to mean I work out at 10pm, thank you shift work. ;) I love sleep as much as the next gal and if I get to bed late I will definitely choose sleep over a work out though, or if I have a hard time sleeping which happens every so often. Figure out the best time for you and go for it, if that's in the evening then work out in the evening.

I do not use a gym.. I refuse to pay for something I don't need (in my case, I'm not saying having a gym membership is a waste for everyone because I know that's not true!!). I run and have weights at home along with P90X or Insanity. It's what works for me. I like to unwind and de-stress after work by working out.

I use to work out before work. For me that was noon to 1p. Worked 2-10p. Now I work out for what is my "morning" which is usually around 1p or 2p. I go to bed at 7am.

I get up at 5am and I'm in the gym by 5.30 6 times a week, best thing I've ever done in terms of my energy levels throughout the day. I feel so much more work awake and alert.

I usually do 4 days of weight lifting with light cardio and the other 2 days I do pure cardio.

I have never been a morning person and I like to sleep. I go after work. Jerry, you are right that sometimes it is too crowded, but I normally start after 6:30 and I do lifting T-TH-SU so I'm opposite most of the bros. I don't have problems slacking since I have to dive by my gym on the way home from work.

Best thing is do your work out when it works for you. If you can get up in the morning, go for it. Me, I'll be hitting the snooze button.
