Figuring out calories burned running

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I'm trying to figure out what the best way to estimate calories burned while running (without an HRM) and haven't found a conclusive answer. I am starting to eat back my exercise calories, so I don't want to be innacurate. I use the "map my run" app and it usually tells me a number that's fairly off from MFP.
Thanks for the tips in advance!

general rule of thumb is 100 calorie for each mile whether you walk or run.0

I agree with this. My heart rate monitor estimates a bit higher than 100 calories per mile run, but I always round back down when I log in the diary.0
