Hi everyone!
My name is Alicia and I am a 144 pound 29 year old. I spent my younger years very thin so I never developed positive diet or exercise habits because at the time I was able to eat whatever I wanted and never gained any weight. When I went away for college that's when I started to see a steady incline in my weight and I have struggled to keep it down ever since. I'm 5'2 so my weight is not currently in the healthy range for my age/height. I was going up and down with a few pounds for a while but in the last year have managed to put on almost 30 pounds. Some have already come off but I'm struggling to keep going and keep the weight moving in the right direction. I've never counted calories before, have terrible portion control skills, and learned early in life to keep eating until the plate is empty. I"m doing a bit better with the latter but could still use some tips/help with the others.

You sound a lot like me- Very thin when I was younger no matter what I ate, then college brought on the Freshman 15, which was soon joined by the Sophomore 15, Junior 15, etc. I was in college for 6 years so you can do the math. It took me a couple more years to realize what bad shape I was in, and a couple more years to do something about it. I'm on the right track now though, and you've taken an important first step too! Welcome!0

Hi Alicia, you are on the right track joining MyFitness Pal it really helps you keep track of how much food you are really consuming. My tip would be to join a TOPS (Take off pounds sensibly group). It is a nonprofit organization group and is very affordable. Best of all, It helps me stay "accountable" because every Tuesday night I am weighed and that weight is recorded. 4 years ago I lost around 47 pounds and have kept all of it off but 10 pounds. Although I have gained some (that's why I'm using this site to be another tool) I believe if I wasn't in this group, I would be much heavier than I am now. Always knowing your weight will be recorded helps me stay focused.0
