Sorting the food database

I'm a bit frustrated. I've emailed twice to the website asking for direction on how to do a couple things, with absolutely no reply. Shrug.

Does anyone know how to exclude all the brand name products when doing a search? I cook my own food 90% of the time and end up scrolling through pages of packaged foods just trying to find a simple ingredient - for example I cannot find sautéed prawns at all, and only found plain steamed cauliflower on the 2nd or 3rd screen. It seems it would make more sense to include the actual food item at the top of the list, followed by all the brand name stuff.

Thanks for any insight.

Try searching for "cauliflower raw". For other dishes, I would add the individual ingredients- eg the prawns, the butter, whatever else you use in your sauté.

I agree with Melanie - search for the raw food, and if it's something you cooked yourself, consider creating a recipe with all the basic ingredients under the Recipe tab. Especially if it's something you make frequently, then it's easy to go in and log a serving of the saved recipe without having to log each individual ingredient again, or having to hunt through the food lists for a close match.

If you put the word "generic" in front of the food you are looking for it will help too OP

Thanks. I have found that adding generic does help. Perhaps I am mis-remembering a different site where one could opt out of even seeing the brand name packaged products, sure made it easier. And no, I rarely make the same recipe more than once so it would be time consuming for me to enter in an entire recipe for a one-shot posting. I'm not too tweaky about getting a precise count, I'm actually more interested in my fiber tally than the calories, so if I'm close, I'm good. What's up with the admin just ignoring me though? That's a bit off-putting. Ah well, I'm usually only good for a couple weeks on these free sites, then I lose interest. C'est la vie.
