I am all for smashing the gender binary. Neither women, nor men, should be prevented from certain activities, jobs, etc. because of their gender. I truly believe in equality. That said, I believe feminism does need to exist. I think the fact that colleges offer a seminar to their first year female students on how to avoid being raped, rather than teaching their male students not to rape is why feminism needs to exist. The fact that "She dressed much older than her age." is still an argument being used in the courtroom is why feminism needs to exist.
I also believe in sexual dimorphism. There are phenotypic differences between males and females of the same species. Those are okay to embrace, or reject, as an individual. I choose embrace many features about myself that are viewed as "feminine" and many of my S/O's attributes that are viewed as "masculine". I do believe that we can choose those phenotypic differences that we want to foster and those that we wish to downplay as individuals. It's not wrong to be more attracted to men that you find to be more masculine or women that you find to be more feminine (or vice versa). It is, however, wrong to decide that another person, based upon their gender or identification, does not have the right to perform a certain job or role in society.
It's okay to be different. It's not okay to be divided into classes/roles because we are different. Equal rights and equal responsibility for all.0 -
when I was dating I hated it when a guy would spend more time in the bathroom primping himself that me lol what happened to the days when men would just wash/ slap on the after shave and go. Now a days there are a lot more men out there who know more about fashion and how a woman should dress than then a lot of women lol, when I was a lot younger most of the men I hung around with were farmers, military ect and their sense of fashion was a nice pair of jeans, shirt and boots. Now you see guys( mainly in the city) walking around in coloured skinny jeans and really nice shoe's,ect,. around here and where I grew up we called them pretty boys.0

Oh and how are men becoming more feminine? Who has stopped a male from expressing his bent Y chromosome? What defines masculinity and femininity and who defines it?
I'll try to answer these questions in reverse order since that seems more logical. But by no menas is there any right answer. These matters are very much open to interpretation but I'll share my views.
What defines masculinity and femininity?
Biologically: testosterone. Men high in testosterone will be more muscular, hairier and tend towards a more machiavellian personality type. Dark triad but not necessarily pathologically so. Classical masculine traits (associated with high test) are leadership, risk taking, agression. From an evolutionary standpoint these make sense.
Women have a higher fat percentage, less body hair and far less testosterone. Classic feminine traits are to be nurturing, loving and more emotionally oriented than men. The 'mother' archetype.
I see many men around me displaying more and more of these classically feminine traits. Media told us girls want a man they can talk to, a man that's in touch with their emotions. So the nice guy thinks: 'wow, so I just have to show my emotional side, be a friend to her and then she'll fall in love with me'
What happens then is that they fall into the 'friendzone' you hear about so much these days. Then they will start crying how girls all date *kitten* and can't can't appreciate the good men.
What they don't realize is that they have brought it onto themselves by displaying all these feminine characteristics and thusly rendering themselves females in the eyes of their crush. I can't count the amount of times I have seen this happen before my eyes.
I could blame society stigmatising classical male behaviour for the increasing frequency of this behavioral pattern but on the other hand I believe it's a man's own responsibility to act like a true man. But a true man also knows that being manly is not the same as being a cocky *kitten*. This is where the whole responsibility thing comes in as well.
At the same time I'm not saying women are incapable of displaying these 'manly' traits. In both sexes there is always a bit of both, different people leaning towards different ratios.
I also think that women who are classically feminine are often displayed as being weak or other such negative implications. This is, in my opinion, where the real sexism lies.
Well that post turned out a little longer than I intended but then again, this is not exactly a simple matter. You will all probably have a lot to disagree on here but I'll see that tomorrow haha.Offical Notice.

Not sure about this "friendzone" thing or how it applies to the basic principals of equal rights. Has it been heavily researched? Has it negatively affected any population stats. Like could you say due the friend zone phenomenon that may be a reason Italy has been having negative birth rates? If they weren't displaying these unusual female characteristics what would be the typical male characteristic?0 -
The friend zone thing is sexist all on its own. And everyone talking about equality for all is referencing feminism, it's semantics ppl. Drop the stigma and look into it!!0

you mean major corporations making the worlds wealth, getting coorporate welfare, and then not contributing crap to the rest of the world. i agree. :P
What I mean is that so many people equate femininity with weakness. The genders are different and there's nothing wrong with that. We live in a world where men are becoming more and more feminine and women are getting more and more masculine. I think that's a bad thing.
I do believe that a man should hold a door open for a girl, and that when the ship is sinking the women and children are saved first. That when the proverbial village is attacked the men are the ones going out to defend it.
But you can't have your cake and eat it too.
With privilege comes responsibility and sacrifice and I believe that is all too often forgotten.0 -

Rather be called an equalist though (otherwise people start sprouting about radical crazy people).
Radical crazies = stereotype. And I personally like to be able to break the stereotype and show people that most feminists are not like that. And maybe some day it won't be a stereotype anymore!
I wasn't always a feminist. But I totally believed the stereotype in high school. On a day honouring the women who were killed in polytechnique massacre, I called them 'femi-nazis'. I was ignorant as ****.
I was once quite ignorant myself! I even took a feminism class my first year of college (it wasn't called a feminism class, I just don't remember the exact name of it. Something about women, but, y'know) and even then I was just like "Okay, but I'm not a feminist, those people are kinda crazy." But it was during that class when I was like "Oh. Wait. This isn't right. Yes, women should be treated equally. Oh. Wait. What? I'm a feminist? Okay. Cool!" and then I began to own it.
that is what happened to me too sorta!! School opened my eyes up radically. It lifted the stone off of me that represented "this is how life needs to be", and then I was blinded by the light and jaded from all sexism for a while. And while I still disrespect haters, I don't take it nearly as to heart, because I know they will burn in the hell they believe in haha
Glad to hear younger women (and men) thinking this way. Lots of creepy legislation out there (in the US).0 -
I can't stand male feminists
That's OK they still support your right to vote, have equal representation in legislation, your right to make the choices for your body, your right to equal pay, your right to not be sexually harassed or assaulted because "its what boys do", your right to make informed choices and express it without fear of backlash. Hey, even the fact you can go on a college campus right now and wear jeans or whatever you want! It's OK even if you can't stand them they've been standing up for the equality. Boy you might say these guys have a pretty strong backbone to fight for something they believe in. HMMMMMM something to think about.0 -
