Atkins for diabetes

I started Atkins only two days ago and already my blood sugar has dropped to normal! I was on two oral medications and two forms of insulin and found I wasn't controlling it at all. So, I started Atkins mostly for my blood sugar but am so surprised and happy and the immediate results. I do need to lose weight, okay, a lot of weight, but I was hoping for better control of diabetes with a "side effect" of weight loss. Woo-hoo, I'm so exicted now! Any other stories of diabetes and Atkins out there?

Congrats that's awesome! I'm also diabetic and having a hard time controlling my numbers, I'm on 3 oral meds and just started the pen .. I'm so scared and want to eventually get off my meds so maybe I should check out Atkins..

I was having a hard time getting my readings under 200, they were mostly in the 200's and 300's. I can't believe how rapid of a change I've had. It is so worth trying. BTW, today my readings have been: morning 176 (oral meds taken only), afternoon 86, and evening 101. Two days ago, my bedtime reading was 316. I am trying to get off all the meds for diabetes and hopefully save my kidneys, limbs and eyesight. No significant problems yet, but I am thinking they are just around the corner if I don't change. The drugs don't work well enough but it seems like food (the right kind) might! Fingers crossed for us both!

Any Atkins-like diet can help with blood glucose control. I must do the same with mine. I do so with a ketogenic diet.

Good luck! I think you'll get good results in weight loss too if you keep this up. :)

I will have to look up a ketogenic diet. Looking forward to long term results.

My morning numbers had been around 250 for the last 3 months or so but I think mostly due to stress. Since I started insulin at night my numbers been between 130 and 170 but its dropped to like 60 during the day which is really scary.. If I cut most carbs out my numbers get very low.
