I am the same way... At work, I have started doing a set of 20 push-ups every time I feel like getting something to eat. I have my own office, so as long as my boss isn't in his office next door, I do them. I've also done a set of squats or crunches instead. Look up "deskercise" for some other ideas too.

I want to read people's responses to this too.

I work from home and although I eat healthily, I find I'm always hungry and want to munch!

try drinking water or herbal tea instead
  • Chewing sugar free gum is good. Also, try to change your routine so that you have less down time. For example, instead of going straight home from work and eating dinner in front of the television, turn on some music so you can focus on your eating and then go for a brisk walk.
  • I am also a board eater so I had to come up with ways to get around it.

First off I bring a snack to work as my board at work snack. The kashi honey sunshines are great for this because they are low in calories and you get a good portion. This works out really well becuase I already have it on hand and its been put in my tracker. Its so much better than the bag of chips I would have grabbed.

Also I keep those flavor packets for my water in my desk and I get them out when I feel snacky. I helps and I drink more water.

Also someone once told me if I wasn't hungery enough to eat an apple then I didn't need to eat. I think about that evey time I reach for something to board eat and most of the time it stops me.

What I do at work is eat every 1-2 hours. After a snack I tell myself that I get to eat again in just an hour if I really want to. This keeps me from stuffing my face. It's a training method for me. It's as though my brain thinks I'm never gonna get to eat again or something. LOL.

Drink a bottle or cold water, have a cup of hot tea or chew gum! Gum keeps my mouth busy...when I get tired of the stick I'm chewing on I will pop another flavor and will keep this going until it is time for my next meal.

I agree with those who posted about eating more frequent, smaller meals & snacks.

I have this same problem at work although it's usually not because I'm bored, but because I'm procrastinating about doing something I don't want to do! I'm way worse about this when I work from home, but do fairly well at the office. My suggestions are similar to the others - I drink a large cup of organic chai tea to get me through mid- morning and then switch to a 32oz glass of cold water. My 'snacks' are grape tomatoes, baby carrots (mainly for the act of chewing/eating) and greek yogurt if I'm truly starting to get hungry. Then I bring fruit for afternoon snacks (apple, fresh fruit) and treat myself to a cold diet coke around 3pm. I've also found if I can slip some headphones on and work with music playing the music is a distraction/motivator and has zero calories!! :o)
