Need HRM advice...

So I know this question has been asked to death but I wanted real people's opinions. I'm looking for an HRM that actually works (I bought the Polar H7 and after 3 uses it completely stopped working even with a battery change). I can't do anything very expensive, but I also only want something that works at a basic level, so heart rate and calories and time basically. Any suggestions?

Also, which do you prefer/think is better/more accurate? Wristwatch-type or chest band?

And I know HRMs are not the perfect way to count how many calories are lost, but I like at least knowing a number range I can work with.

Thanks in advance!

If you run with a phone (for music or GPS), then I'd recommend using it as your heart rate monitor. You certainly want a HRM with a chest strap, they just seem to work better. I use my phone & a Zephyr HxM HRM, which connects to your phone via Bluetooth. There are a variety of apps that will allow you to track your progress.

Have you contacted the company that manufactured your HRM? It seems like it is defective.

I did, or at least tried to. Couldn't get into contact with them. So I'm sending it back to amazon and getting a refund.
