Is there a trick?

Is there a trick to getting more advice etc on this site? I have seen so many threads with pages and pages of replies, yet every time I post a question or something I only get a few. Is it because of what I am posting? Is it the time of day? Just bad luck?

Probably the time. Try posting around dinner time, also add people as friends so they familiarize with your username.

I usually read stuff but never post, but was looking at the motivation threads for motivation and it totally sucks that nobody replies to your threads! good luck.
  • Probably timing. A new post is only on the recent column for a short time unless someone replies to it (therefore bringing it back to it), so if it's missed then it has a slim chance of being found by a large audience.
If you post in a group thread or around peak times (eg dinner) it increases the chances.

I've had the same thing happen so I think it has to do with the time and day. Some people are more supportive then others too.

It could also be what you're posting. I don't know what you've previously posted and I don't mean for this to sound mean so please don't take it that way..... but in your picture, you look like you might weigh a little over 100 pounds. Your progress bar indicates you weigh around 160. This might give people the impression that you're just trolling the message boards.

As someone who's been morbidly obese her whole life, I get irritated when girls with full-length bony pictures post stuff about how they can't lose that last 20 pounds, or something to that effect. The only response would be something rude like, "the only 20 pounds you have to lose would be in your extremities. Cut off your leg and you'll lose it."

Also, people (probably without realizing it) often ask for advice on nutrition while keeping their diary closed. It's hard for people to critique what you're eating if the people don't know what you're eating.

I don't know what you've posted so I don't know if this answers your question at all.

If it helps, your picture is totally cute. :D

Are you possibly asking things that have been asked numerous times? Try a forum search for your topics and you may find that people have asked/answered for you. :)

I didn't take that as mean at all! I appreciate what you said a lot :) My picture is actually from a few years ago, I was probably about 135 then, My goal is to get back to around there. I still have that shirt and want to fit it comfortably again!! I do have pics of me at my starting weight on here as well. So no definitely not trolling, my photo is just a little motivation to myself. But thanks for the advice maybe I will change it to something else :) im pretty sure my profile and diary are open, used to be anyways.

Previously i have asked about food scales, hrms and a few other things. i even posted an NSV earlier today and even that only brought in a few responses :(

Most people who post on the forums seem to work typical desk job hours, 8-5 or 9-5. It also helps if you have friends. Your post will show on their wall, and if they respond, their reply will also post on their wall, drawing the attention of their friends who may also comment.

That's why certain people get a ton of responses and some don't.

Haha, i was wondering the same thing. I'm new here and i've made 3 posts and nobody has replied to me. I was starting to feel invisible. I work during dinner hours, so i guess i miss the peak times for posting. :)

Anyway, hi! And congrats on your progress. :)

Don't be afraid to start by using the search function for both threads and groups that would have answers to your question.

I have tried searching but usually don't find anything that really applies to me/my situation specifically. Maybe i just need to look a little harder. :P

You've got to try harder to "sell" your thread.

Try adding "[Women Only!!!]" to your posts - this seems to help.

As does innuendo or bad-mouthing pop-tarts.

    Exactly.

Now if your next thread is titled "[Women only!!!] PopTarts are making me fat - Boob question" - I can guarantee 20+ responses.

    Exactly.

Now if your next thread is titled "[Women only!!!] PopTarts are making me fat - Boob question" - I can guarantee 20+ responses.

The downside will be that 19+ of them will be "this thread isn't what I thought it was" posts

Theres a few factors that goes in it.

    1) What you're asking. Some questions have been repeated over and over and OVER again and so people often feel they don't have to answer it.
    2) The few replies you get usually covers it so others often don't wanna be redundant.
    3) Time/day. If the folks in US are sleeping, you will likely see less traffic on your threads.
    4) Where you ask it and what. On the main forums unfortunately I've noticed a LOT of noises so I usually post my more serious questions in a private group called Eat, train, progress. Its ran by few highly fitness educated folks and you can get very solid, on the track, info. An example is this thread that I created which in my mind was a silly question but I still got more than enough info.

Heres the link to the group. I would encourage you to join it and ask fitness related questions there for more specific, scientific replies :)

Make sure you use a descriptive post title. If I see a post with a generic title like, "I have a question," I'm probably going to skip it. If I see one that clearly explains what the question is and I think I can contribute to the topic, I'm far more likely to click on it and post.
