Healthy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hi all, this is my healthy recipe for cookies. They are delicious and easy to make. My kids love them and I make them weekly:

Dry Ingredients:

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cup quick rolled oats
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 TBSP cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (optional - could use raisins or walnuts)

Wet Ingredients:

1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/2 cup olive or coconut oil
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

Mix dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl, mix wet ingredients together. Mix wet with dry. If it seems too wet, add a pinch or two of extra flour. Cool the mix for 20 minutes in the fridge (sometimes I don't bother doing this). Preheat oven to 335 degrees. Drop by tablespoons onto a greased baking pan - 24 cookies. Press down with a fork to ensure even cooking but not too thin. Bake about 15-20 minutes (my oven is 22 minutes) or until golden brown.

Mine work out to be about 60 calories each. YUM!!

You can make cookies with just oats and bananas they yummy too works out 40kcal a cookie or 50 with choc chips :) just have to mash the banana add the oats and choc chips (or whatever else you want) make into cookie shapes and bake 180 for 10-15 mins :)

I have a similar recipe that I've been making for a year or two. My husband hates the texture of regular oatmeal cookies so I started putting the oats through the food processor before adding them to the dough. I get them to a coarse cornmeal consistency and you can't tell the cookies have oatmeal.

  • Better recipe. 2 mashed bananas and 1 cup original oats. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. You can add cinnamon or nuts or flavored chips to it to give it additional sweetness. Cookies will turn out soft.

These look delicious! Just curious though, how do you calculate the 60 calories or so? I put the numbers in and get 97 calories, not quite as healthy sounding :(

I gotta find out the sugars in these to see if Dad can have them (he's diabetic). I'm trying these out soon!
