I just started MFP today. I have been successful in the past with Weight Watches, but it gets expensive!!!! I am going to need support! I have a sit down job all day, and my husband in retired and does everything for me at home, so I do nothing but sit on couch and on my IPAD at all times!

I am in a similar situation to you but I do play golf a couple of times a week. So don!t do a lot of walking in between. I am doing the 5/2 diet and find this suits me at the moment although weight loss seems slow. Keep going you will get there in the end0

I'm a legal assistant at a law firm so I sit all day at work, too, and my husband is currently between jobs so most things are done for me at home as well.
Feel free to add me!0 -
First bit of advice, start doing some exercise. Saying you spend all day sat down is obviously your main problem but only you can change that.0
-
You already know what the problem is. Get off your *kitten* and get busy. If you don't, nothing will happen, and you'll still be fat and whining about it.0

I too have a desk job and am pretty sedentary at work - a few trips to the copier and the restroom is about it. Nows a great time of the year to get outside and walking or running if you're so inclined. If you have a smart phone, there are many apps I've seen to track walking weither distance or steps. I personally have a FitBit, essentially a fancy pedometer, and go for extra walks around the neighborhood to beat a goal. If you watch TV a lot, make a commercial exercise game. For a car commercial do squats, for a food commercial do situps, for a store (best buy, target, etc.) do pushups. You can also find workout videos at youtube.0

What is the 5/2 diet?0 -
First, welcome to MFP! There are NO judgements here only helpful advice. I'd like to tell you how lucky you are to have such a devoted and doting husband. I am also very lucky to have one of those as well, minus the doing everything for me part. I think since you just started on this journey you should take some time to think about things you would really like to do. Maybe take a daily walk to your favorite part of town with the hubby in tow and go window shopping or take a stroll through the local park and just enjoy the weather together. Whatever you choose to do is a step towards health! And getting the hubster on board will make things so much easier for you.
I also sit at work all day at a computer but I try to take a break every hour to stretch my limbs and grab some water. Try to walk over to your co-workers desk/office instead of send that email or making the call. This can also help you succeed at work too, so that's a bonus. I signed up to the local gym by the office and spend my lunch hour there doing fun classes. Maybe you can round up a few co-workers who want to get fit and make it a group thing? The possibilities are endless, you just have to make that final decision. Good luck to you on your journey!0 -
I am in a similar situation. Even though my fiancee and I don't work he spoils me and is OCD so he does everything from the cleaning to the cooking. I like you end up sitting all day on my laptop or reading a book hehe feel free to add me maybe we can inspire each other.
I have trouble getting motivated to move.

Welcome! I, too, am a WW convert. I hope you find what you need here.
It sounds like it's time to make a "get moving" plan. I also have a sitting/desk job during the day, and often find myself glued to my computer for HOURS before I move. Seriously, we have sensor lights in our offices, and after a while without movement they turn off. Mine switch off all the time. It's sad.
SO...some of the things I do now to get more movement in:
1. Go to the restroom on another floor and take the stairs. I'll walk up to the floor above mine and use the toilet and fill my water bottle several times per day.
2. Put down that ipad and move at home. You can find a lot of easy/beginner workouts on many On-Demand cable systems. You can also find a lot of great free videos on YouTube and other internet sites. Start small, and do what you can.
3. Go for walks. Take a 15 minute walk on your lunch break. Take 15 minutes in the evening before dinner. There, you just did a half hour!
Find someone at work who is also trying to get healthy and become walking partners. Find mall-walking groups in your area and go there on the weekends. Movement helps your stress levels, makes you feel better and have more energy, and helps with motivation around food/eating healthy! It will be an important addition to your process.
Good luck!0 -
Get up and walk around your office every hour or so for 5 minutes. It doesn't seem like much but it adds up do little things like take the stairs, etc0

if your husband does everything at home, then you have time to exercise. Put the iPad away and get off your butt and move. Track your food and exercise on here, maintain a healthy deficit, and you'll start to see the pounds come off. This is one thing your husband can't do for you.0

I have a desk job too and am on my bum most of the time in the office. My husband is unemployed so most of the household chores are done as well but I like to garden so I get outside and do that and work out when I get home. Once you get in the habit of working out after work it feels great. I haven't done weight watchers but I think you can make low cal meals at home for less. Or better yet, your hubby can!0

I have a sit down job also. I sit at a desk for 9 hours a day. I try to get up & exercise before work, or take a walk at a nearby park after work.
You could join a gym? I know thats expensive too.
Do you have a yard? Gardening burns tons of calories
Limit yourself to the Ipad , for maybe 1 hour in the evening. Do sit ups, or lift small weights while watching tv.
It's all about being creative with your time.0 -
I also have a desk job, and I'm still losing weight. I lift boxes in my warehouse, take my dog on long walks, and go to yoga 3-4 times a week. On top of volunteering 3 nights a week. You have plenty of time to get off your butt and move. If I can find time, even at my desk job (I walk at lunch as well), you can find time.0
-
The key to weight loss is to eat less and move more. From what you're saying moving even a little bit is more than you're doing now. Go for a walk on your lunch break! Even 15 minutes is a great start!0

Just spend a little time lifting and keep your diet in check. That's all you need to lose weight and look good.0 -
Welcome, Im an engineer and sit at a desk all day, walk round the plant a lil bit, but mostly sitting at a desk. I like this website/app, i have had big success on here, always got really good advice from everyone. Feel free to add me if you want to. Good luck0

It sounds like you have plenty of time that can be spent exercising so you have that on your side. I have a desk job as well so I get my exercise after work. Instead of being lazy around the house I go to the gym and spend a little over an hour there working towards my goals. It can be tough to get started, but once I started seeing results it became something that I actually look forward to. Good luck to you!0

I have a job where I'm required to be on my butt at the computer all day as well, so I understand! The best thing I did was make sure that I got at *least* 1 hour of exercise each day after work, and that's even with night classes. A quote that motivated me to make time and keep up with it: "There is nothing more important in your life than your health - if you don't keep your health going, all the work, schooling, entertainment, and family time won't mean a thing. You will not have a body or mind to enjoy it with."
Hope you find some good ways to work in time to get moving!!0 -
hi! I have a desk job too. I have a bike at home. I try to get on the bike while i watch tv and play on my I-touch or help my son with homework. Please feel free to add me as a friend!0

I have a sit down job all day and have alot do do in the evenings so I make it a point to get up at 4 and exercise in the morning. I know if I don't do it in the morning that it will never get done. Plus it wakes me up and gives me more energy throughout the day.0

I have a primarily sedentary job as well. If you are apprehensive to begin working out, or haven't done so in a while, I suggest trying a few at home DVDs to build up your strength and confidence. I am a HUGE fan of Jillian Michaels because I feel like she is easy to relate to. Her and the other women in the videos have "real" bodies. They aren't body-building glamatrons prancing around in swimsuits. Haha Her videos are tough and get your heart rate up too. I feel they are a good spring board to getting back on the exercise wagon. I have had positive results from them myself. Joining a gym with friends or taking group exercise classes like Zumba, Yoga, or Pilates is a fun way as well. Depending on your age or health, I also recommend looking into the South Beach Diet (recommended by my doctor) as well as the meal plans included with some workout DVDs. But remember from your Weight Watchers meetings...it is never a diet, but merely a lifestyle choice.0

Have a desk job, as well. Couple of co-workers and I started walking a 3.37 mile path everyday during our lunch hour. I like it because I get to use it as a supplement to my night and weekend workouts, and I don't feel so bad when I miss a night of running or doing a P90x video.0
